I don’t know how anything gets built there. I was on my company’s travel team, did 11 computer shows in a year. I had a presentation/speech to give, and worked the booth during the days. We designed and built our booth ourselves back in Texas, disassembled and shipped it to Javits Center.
We couldn’t set it up ourselves, though. We had to pay union workers to do it, then pay for an inspector to check their work, before we had to pay not one but two union electricians to simply plug our cord into the buss.
Philadelphia and Boston were just as bad. Las Vegas couldn’t have cared less, as long as we were ready when the doors opened. This was around 1999-2000.

More money than talent, sadly. Sold them and went to Vietnam. Made about enough playing them that I was a little ahead after the sale.
