We Need a Limited Military Draft

It's time to change how our country fills the ranks of our military.

Since 1775, our nation has used a combination of volunteers and draftees to meet our national defense personnel needs, especially in times of crisis.

Today, the military needs only about 160,000 youth from an eligible population of 30 million to meet its recruitment needs. But after two decades of war -- both of which ended unsuccessfully -- and low unemployment, many experts believe the all-volunteer force has reached a breaking point. And American confidence in its military is at a low.

World War I Sept. 1917 – Nov. 1918 2,810,296 - 30+% were volunteers
World War II Nov. 1940 – Oct. 1946 10,110,104 - 38.8% were volunteers
Korean War June 1950 – June 1953 1,529,539
Vietnam War Aug. 1964 – Feb. 1973 1,857,304 - 75% were volunteers

the more draftees, the better chance to win.

effectively creating a military warrior caste that now appears more like a multi-generational family business than an organization that represents the true makeup of our democratic republic.

And yet.....the powers that be are worried because the majority of recruits come from [prior] military families......only those families aren't sending their kids off to the military, and the services aren't making recruiting mission.

I was a Marine infantryman. I joined in peacetime at 17 yrs old. I have four combat tours and am combat wounded [continued to re-enlist and go off to war even after I was wounded]. My younger brother went off to the Corps as an infantryman, and had two combat tours.

At one time, I would've been proud for my sons (I have four of those) to have followed in my footsteps.

No way in hell do I want them joining the military.

While I thank them for the service. It's a big no-no.

I'm fine with having females serve as our nurses and doctors in a gender segregated unit. Absolutely no fraternization between the sexes.

I’d settle for requiring females to register. Even if they would only serve in non-combat roles, it would come as a big wake-up call.

Better still, only require them to register for the draft if they register to vote.

The military has alienated traditional men with its woke ideology. Reinstalling the draft will result in the same outcomes the Tsarist army had in trying to draft Jewish men, who were similarly alienated due to Tsarist Anti-Semitism. They fled the country, cut off their trigger fingers, or claimed ineligibility for medical reasons. The last U.S. draft was not bringing in willing or compliant recruits in the latter stages of the Vietnam War. The leftist types who would be willing to join would need six months in a health camp to lose weight and build muscle before actual boot camps.

Rich peoples kids go first. No deferments for college or sports. No exceptions. Thats a draft I could support.

Solve two problems with one policy - All illegal alien invaders will be impressed into service for the Foreign Legion and sent to Ukraine, Korea, and any other place of U.S. engagement.
