Legal aid groups in Chicago filed a lawsuit and a complaint with the Department of Housing Preservation and Development on Tuesday against corporate landlords for automatically rejecting prospective tenants with “any prior connection to an eviction case.”

So who owns your private property now.....hmmmm?
Actually no one does. They took down a youtube video on this lawyer explaining what steps you would have to take in order to declare your real estate free from gov’t encumbrances, which no one does. Everyone’s real estate could be put up for sale by the gov’t if the US defaults on their debt and China calls the debt.
My corporate management team in Florida would get around this, NO PROBLEM.
Oy! Where is this video?????
I have rental property in upstate NY. The 2019 rules made it militantly pro-tenant. There are still ways around it. They will soon outlaw checking an applicant’s credit score.
youtube took it down. not sure if it is on rumble. it was quite an elaborate procedure to say the least to get your property to actually being owned exclusively by you.
I imagine a lot of them are going to get bounced out anyway. The landlords know they can make a hell of a lot more money putting up the DNC’s Foreign Invader voter base.
If the gov wants the landlord to provide a blanket assumption of that risk, then the gov should pay the tenant’s way when the tenant fails to.
The gov can then subrogate the claim and pursue the tenant for reimbursement.
Skip paying property tax and find out.
What private property? Government only rents you real estate. Try not paying property taxes. Government tells you what you can and cannot build on a property. Government will force you to pay thousands to connect to public water and sewer even if you provide your own. In some places government will even prohibit your free speech if you want to display religious or political signage or displays on your property.
Part of the leftist war on landlords. Result — less housing rented, higher rents or shortage of rental property, and more homelessness.
Only big politically connected corporations will be able to be landlords. This will not be good for tenants.
“Everyone’s real estate could be put up for sale by the gov’t if the US defaults on their debt and China calls the debt.”
Property rights and ownership are typically protected by law, and the government does not automatically take possession of private real estate holdings in such circumstances.
A US debt default might result in higher taxes and an economic collapse, potentially leading the unprepared to face mortgage defaults and tax sales, jeopardizing their homes.
If the US default the dollar would be devalued!
It’s essential to remember that mortgage agreements are typically denominated in the current currency, the US Dollar. In the event of a dollar collapse, the bank would still expect repayment in dollars as per the agreement.
If the value of the US Dollar were to plummet, you might find that paying off your mortgage with just one ounce of gold becomes possible due to the precious metal’s increased worth in comparison to the devalued dollar currency.

I guy I know owns a large apartment building, maybe 50 units. Now and again he’d have have a few empty units. He didn’t like that, so he signed up for Section 8. Now he has 100% occupancy.
Sounds good? Nope. Most of the good tenants have moved out, as it doesn’t take many Section 8 folks to wreck a building. There are now fights in the apartments, drug deals in the hallways, and trash everywhere.
My friend regards his decision to allow Section 8 (well, duh). I suspect landlords who take in illegals will come to that same conclusion.
In Florida some democrat cities started with the hellhole regulations and DeSantis passed state laws that stopped that crap. State laws trumped local regulations On more reason people are moving here.
The thing is soon you won’t have a choice, Section 8 goes to the head of line, and if you refuse, you go to jail, and have your property taken away without compensation.
That’s a good move on DeSantis’ part. NY, even downstate is militantly pro tenant.
Another tell tale sign is ESA. In my experience, anyone with an ESA is trouble. And you can’t deny based on an ESA.
