Singapore conducted its first execution of a woman in 19 years on Friday and its second hanging this week for drug trafficking despite calls for the city-state to cease capital punishment for drug-related crimes.
Saridewi Djamani, 45, was sentenced to death in 2018 for trafficking about 31 grams (1 ounce) of diamorphine, or pure heroin, the Central Narcotics Bureau said. It said the amount was "sufficient to feed the addiction of about 370 abusers for a week."
Activists said another execution is planned next week.
Singapore's laws mandate the death penalty for anyone convicted of trafficking more than 500 grams (17.6 ounces) of cannabis and 15 grams (0.5 ounces) of heroin.
Last October, Singapore's Court of Appeal dismissed Djamani's appeal, finding that "it is not in dispute that she was not a courier and the only punishment available is the mandatory death penalty."

On the flip side, because of their tough laws against drugs Singapore has hardly any “homeless”, Think how many lives that saves, and what a cleaner and better society you have.
I would not mind us adopting the same policy.
Humper wouldn’t last long over there
Next!

Regards,
The woman was troubled from what I read. She was in and out of prison before and was a relapsed addict herself.
She’s drug-free now. Just like George Floyd.
Remember — this is the place where a kid was caned for keying a car some years back. Now to their credit for humane jurisprudence, they DID reduce the sentence from 40 whacks to just 20.
Too bad Russia doesn’t execute drug offenders.
Imagine!
People die everyday trying to get into Singapore!
They want to see the most audacious wealth inequality in all of SE Asia. Absent massive govt subsidized cheap housing they wouldn’t have more homelessness-they’d be living on rafts.
Imagine harder next time.
Hunter Biden gets one way ticket to Singapore onboard Air Force One. Joe Biden will drop him off personally.
She was probably an idiot. Singapore is notorious for very strict drug laws. It’s really stupid to smuggle any quantity of drugs there. One problem with Singapore is that some prescription and over the counter drugs, that are legal in most other countries, are not legal in Singapore.
Humper…
That is a good one!
"I would not mind us adopting the same policy."
Welp, she ain’t going to do that again.
And we all know that some sort of moral high mindedness isnt really what’s behind this plea for mercy. Go with it and you get no bail and decriminalized everything by the end.
I wouldn’t be quite as harsh.
3 strikes (felony) and you are out.. literally.
Assuming everyone makes at least one mistake in their lives...maybe two...but 3 ..you have not learned the error of your way and probably are not going to.
I would go with, starting with the third violent felony, the jury gets to do a penalty phase with death or life without parole being options.
Next to that sign was a big trash barrel labeled "Amnesty Bin". I almost tossed my blood pressure meds into it...just in case they'd be mistaken for drugs.
I,for one,*fully* support the death penalty for drug traffickers here in the US.
