Several years ago, on I-70 in the People’s Republic of Illinois, an Illinois nazi pulled me over on a pretext and started a fishing expedition. I was guilty of driving alone while Texan on I-70 in the People’s Republic. I vowed that I would never, ever step foot again in that horrid place. That was about 5 years ago and I haven’t and will not.

The nazi drove very close to the centerline just off my rear quarter for a fair distance before pulling me over. The pretext? Said I was crossing the right side white line.

The judge usually knows the officers whom they have worked with many times and your just another sheep to be fleeced.

The corrupt Kansas cops aren’t after drugs. They ARE after any cash you might happen to have with you. Kansas cops are notorious for stealing any cash on you, claiming it “could be” drug related.

All my money went into registering my vehicles in Kansas.

“The dogs on On Patrol Live and the predecessor have an incredibly awful record of false positives.”

i noticed that too ... would think it would be good grounds for tossing ANY search predicated on such a dog “alerting”.

also noticed that most traffic stops are complete BS and are also complete BS as predicates for searches ...

nonetheless, i’m still stunned at the number of morons driving stoned, carrying felony drugs AND who carry no registration, no driver’s license and no insurance and frequently have felony warrants outstanding ...

since the traffic stops are all pretty much random BS anyway, does that mean practically everybody on the road on friday and saturday nights are morons driving stoned, carrying felony drugs AND who carry no registration, no driver’s license and no insurance and frequently have felony warrants outstanding?

“Just say “I do not consent to that search.””

the cops just ignore that ... last night on on patrol live i saw a cop ignore that and say he could search anyway because he saw the passenger “make a move” ...

Get your phone out. Repeat “I do not consent to this search.” Without consent, the cops need a warrant. Cops will argue exigent circumstances, but true “exigent circumstances” are very narrow, like blood dripping out of the trunk.

The cop asks “do you mind if I ask you something”? The correct answer is, “No sir, I prefer you don’t”. Then, “have a nice day, officer”, is next.

I do not see any rights problem here. No drugs or illegal stuff in the car, no problem. If asked, “do you mind if we search your car”, the correct answer is “I prefer you didn’t do that”. This prevents officers from having the opportunity to plant evidence.

The key is to always talk to a police officer with respect and politeness, and never be baited by hostility. Always worked for me. What is so hard about this approach?

Police officers are essential and deserve respect. However, they are not our friends.

I was pulled over in South Carolina on 91 heading back to Ft.Bragg for speeding, I was 5 miles over the speed limit. I was told to follow the officer and ended up at a trailer parked off the Highway hidden in some woods. There I was told I could pay a fine of 80.00 or spend the weekend in the clink, being 18 and naive I paid the fine. I think that type of thing does not happen nowadays but was quite prevalent down south back in those days.

I have to admit that my worst, and most pointless, traffic stop happened to me on I-70 in Kansas. I was driving through KS coming back from a West Coast tour after visiting a friend in Colo. I was living in Japan at the time, but I had a car in the US that was registered with my parents. I also had an international drivers license, not a US one.

I got stopped for speeding - 5 mph over the limit, which was unbelievable. I was going much slower than most everyone else, and my ‘86 Buick was a dog. Its speedometer only went up to 85.

After the cop asked me for my license, registration and insurance and looked them over, I became a suspect. I had to wait while he checked the registration, and I had to dig out my passport, as he initially refused to accept my international drivers license. He noticed I had been in Canada several weeks before, and decided that was a good enough reason to search the car. I told him no, and he started a spiel about how he could hold me until he got a warrant. God intervened at that point by having him get some urgent call for assistance. He gave me a verbal warning and told me to go on my way.

I hate Kansas Nazis!

Back in the day, (way before RICO), the FBI did investigate egregious Traffic Traps and did what they could.

The trucking industry turned to sealed speed recorders on the trucks, (Congress mandated properly installed and maintained units to be Evidence, SCOTUS agreed), and the Crooked Coppers just turned to other violations.

The one thing the Crooked Towns couldn't beat was the Feds bypassing the town with an Interstate Freeway because the Feds worked together, kept records and had complete control of construction.

Bypass meant certain economic death for a town.

There were several I watched rot for years in California, my dad pointed 'em out when we drove by on the freeway, and told me why.

Gestapo cops are easily handled by elected, pro-2nd amendment constitutional sheriffs.

If you want to rid your community of gestapo cops, elect a constitutional sheriff.

All you say is true, however I did qualify my comment with these opening words:

If we had any kind of a Constitution enforcing Federal Government and FBI...

That is NOT a recommendation that the present FBI be allowed to investigate anyone, or do anything.

I heard a story, second-hand but from a reliable source, of an AA male pulled over on I-70 in Kansas for some alleged traffic violation. During the stop, the officer said that he smelled marijuana and that the driver needed to step out of the car while it is searched. At this point, the driver told that officer 'No, you don't because I've never smoked pot' and besides. he needed a warrant and before he asked for a warrant, he might want to check closer who the driver was - he held a prominent position in at a major state university that required frequent drug testing and was involved in another activity that required testing at each event and he had a perfect record of clean drug tests stretching back over a decade. The cop apparently did because he came back and told the driver that he was free to go.

I'm not going to say who the driver was because the story is second-hand and I haven't confirmed it with him directly. Many people would recognize his name and would understand why he was tested so frequently. I'm sure the cop responded to realizing who this person was with a sincere "Oh, crap, I hope he doesn't make an issue of this." I'd be willing to bet that his body recorder suffered a malfunction on this stop.

I watch the show as well—hopefully it means that the cops have developed skills at identifying drivers most likely to meet that criteria.

My sense is that drivers who swerve wildly all over the road, speed way over the limit or cut off and or tailgate other drivers are more likely than the average citizen to meet those criteria.

Slightly off topic, but the relatively new department on the show (Fullerton CA) shows just how nasty CA is getting. The number of citizens (including bystanders) with hostile even provocative attitudes towards cops seems very high—not a place a cop would want to be imho.

“The key is to always talk to a police officer with respect and politeness”

That is good advice—even for hard core criminals.

It maximizes the chances for a good outcome—nothing to lose by being pleasant and respectful.

Many criminals raise the suspicions of cops with a hostile attitude and their (often hilarious) loud (usually false) interpretation of the law.

There was one criminal (drug dealer) on Cops who had been doing business for years and had never been caught though he had been pulled over many times.

He admitted his “secret” was that he was so polite and pleasant during those stops that the cops were persuaded he had nothing to hide and didn’t bother searching him or his vehicle.
