“It’s a State issue, period.”
“Lot’s of Democrats said the same thing about slavery.”
That’s why we had the 13th amendment to the Constitution. A Constitutional amendment to ban abortion would be legal.
And before that we had the Slave Trade Act of 1794, the Compromise of 1850, and the Emancipation Proclamation, all of which restricted and banned slavery in various ways. Unfortunately Vivek Ramaswamy says he wouldn't support any federal abortion ban of any kind.
Yep. If conservatives want a federal ban on abortion, work on passing an amendment to include it in the Constitution. I’m pro-life but also pro-federalism as defined in the Constitution. Its a state issue and people can always move to a state that has hemmed abortion.
Slavery was specifically referred to in the original constitution, which was legal at the time, so it arguably required a constitutional amendment to ban it. Abortion was universally illegal at the time our constitution was ratified and therefore there is no requirement for an amendment to ban it.
