When the United States Women’s National Team opened its play in the 2023 FIFA World Cup during a match against Vietnam last week, the players made headlines when the majority of the team chose not to single the national anthem before the match. And despite the backlash they received, those players stood silent once again on Wednesday night.
As Yahoo Sports points out, the majority of the players in the starting lineup for Wednesday night’s match against the Netherlands refused to sing the national anthem or place their hands over their hearts as The Star Spangled Banner played before the game.
“Six players, including Andi Sullivan, Sophia Smith, Naomi Girma, Emily Fox, Trinity Rodman and Crystal Dunn, had chosen not to sing the anthem in the opening game against Vietnam and refused to do so again against the Dutch,” Yahoo Sports wrote.
But some players did choose to sing the national anthem, as Yahoo Sports points out.
“Others, including captain Lindsey Horan, striker Alex Morgan and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher did belt out the words to the Star Spangled Banner with their hands across their hearts,” Yahoo Sports wrote.
This is not the first time these players have chosen to remain silent during the national anthem. Back in 2020, several players chose not to sing the national anthem due to racial inequalities and injustice in the country. Star player Megan Rapinoe even suggested that she might not ever sing the song again.
Bring in the alternates!
I never sing along, I just stand with my hand over my heart.
Does that make me a bad person?

Maybe they were too busy checking each other out.
(Was that wrong? Should I have not said that?)
“Star player Megan Rapinoe even suggested that she might not ever sing the song again.”
Hey Meg! You could learn a good lesson in patriotism by spending a few months in a Russian prison.
Typical insane leftist.
No.
They wonder why they can’t make as much as men players do. Maybe they should start by not making people hate them. I’ll never support them for that reason alone.
Classless.
the team is setting back women’s soccer popularity decades. The organization should replace them with players that will promote soccer and the country that they represent.
“I never sing along, I just stand with my hand over my heart.
Does that make me a bad person?”
A pathetic response. These angry Lesbian America hating women do neither. I can’t imagine anyone is unaware of this fact. So, I must assume you are either ignorant or a Troll.
In a normal world, this country would officially, and publicly disavow those “women”.
Denounce them and state that they do not represent our country in any way, shape, or form.
In fact, in a sane country, they would be stripped of the privilege of calling themselves the US women’s soccer team since they obviously hate the USA.
Exactly. That’s all leftists are, they are just like retired schoolteachers: no class.
I’d like to see those “women” try their stupid treasonous little act in Tehran or Kabul and see how the locals respond.
The Man Without a Country comes to mind. They should not be allowed back into the U.S. as they’ve clearly declared their enemy status. Let them be “global citizens” elsewhere unless they repent.
Good for them.
I disagree with their position, but I have far more respect for someone who can hold to an unpopular opinion in the face of serious opposition than for someone who’ll posture when it’s easy then fold when people complain.
Borders, language, culture.
Well, the unpopular position would be to sing proudly.
There goes your argument.
Go Vietnam!! Beat those whiners.
“...pathetic...ignorant...Troll...”

Ahhh, resorting to name calling, now, are we?
Perhaps I just do not watch or care about soccer.
I never see major league baseball players “singing” either.
If you want to get into a name calling contest,
I’ll bet you I can beat you.
Did any of their coaches encourage them and/or follow suit? If so, give them the same boot also.
I wish those worthless feminazis would wind up in a foreign prison, like Billy Hayes (the guy whose life was the subject of “Midnight Express”).
