Former President Donald Trump is maintaining a dominant lead in the Republican primary race, even in the wake of the news of him being the target of another investigation, the latest Monmouth University survey found.

In a crowded 14-candidate field, Trump leads with majority support, garnering 54 percent among Republican voters. As is consistent with other national surveys, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis falls to a distant second, 32 points behind with 22 percent support.

Anti-woke businessman Vivek Ramaswamy placed third, 17 points behind DeSantis with five percent support.

Three percent chose South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and former Vice President Mike Pence. All others saw two percent support or less.

2024 National Republican Primary

Trump — 54% (+32)
DeSantis — 22%
Ramaswamy — 5%
Pence — 3%
Haley — 3%
Scott — 3%
Christie — 3%
Burgum — 1%
Johnson — 1%

2 Way:
Trump — 55% (+20)
DeSantis — 35%

“When asked whom they would like to see as the Republican nominee for president in 2024, 46% of GOP-aligned and leaning voters name Trump and 20% name DeSantis without any prompting,” Monmouth reported, noting that Trump’s support increased to 54 percent when candidates were listed.

Trump also bests DeSantis in a head-to-head matchup, 55 percent to DeSantis’s 35 percent.

“These results are similar to a Monmouth poll taken two months ago when DeSantis officially launched his campaign,” according to Monmouth.

Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, observed that DeSantis “has not made any headway.”

“The arguments that he’d be a stronger candidate and a more effective president than Trump have both fallen flat,” he added.

Didn’t Romney say that if all the low-scoring candidates dropped out they could deny Trump the nomination?

Not so much that he leads, but that he is over 50%. It’s over.

And It was over before it got started.

The question is will those 22% DS voters vote for Trump in the general. Don’t count on it. Those are angry Trump haters.

And It was over before it got started.

Indeed. The silence from the DeSantos camp now means they're deciding whether it's best to continue appeasing their Hungarian overlords or crawl back to President Trump and kiss the hell out of his accomplishments. That is really the best tried and truth path there.

There’s a lot of people that hate Trump, and I’ve never understood why.

Underperformers hate overachievers.

Vivek still needs our help. Not to take the nomination from Trump, but to send DeSantis to MAGA Training Camp, so he can ‘re-invent’ himself as someone Trump voters actually don’t HATE.

Proof Trump supporters will defend ANYTHING to help Trump. That's all that really matters to them.

Another term for that is LOYALTY. Plenty of rich, conservative, billionaires, but only one willing to throw it all away to try to save this country.

I respect loyalty. I truly to. But, it cannot be demanded. Loyalty is earned, both ways. You cannot break loyalty to someone, and expect them to still be loyal to you.

DeSantis should have earned Trump’s loyalty by being one of his main supporters during the Mueller investigation. But, Trump took this totally for granted. Trump claims DeSantis had to come to him begging for his endorsement, when Trump’s endorsement should have been an obvious given considering how hard DeSantis had worked defending Trump.

Then, Trump worked to move the RNC convention from Jacksonville, which was the original plan. DeSantis was removed as a keynote speaker, and not even offered a spot in the new location in North Carolina. Trump claimed this was because of Corona, even though Florida was by far the freer state in this regard.

This is HARDLY an isolated example of Trump demanding loyalty, but refusing to give it on his part. He obviously just wants people who are completely subservient, and anyone who refuses this is attacked, including many who previously were devoted to him in the past. This is the type of behavior that will ensure a conservative/Republican disaster in 2024, whether all of us agree with this level of submissiveness to one man or not. Only some do, many do not.

I have absolutely no respect for those people. They have no sympathy or compassion for the hell that Donald Trump and his family have been put through, is being put through, and no sense of alarm or urgency over the malicious prosecutions of President Trump. “Illegal and unconstitutional,” and I would add, politically motivated prosecutions.

It seems to me they allow their personal dislike of the man cloud their reasoning. Just when America needs them most.
