North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum credits 'hack' of offering $20 gift cards in exchange for $1 campaign donations
Dark horse GOP presidential candidate and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum has revealed the "completely legal" hack that helped secure his spot on the first Republican debate stage.
Burgum's campaign announced Tuesday morning that he qualified for the first Republican debate in Milwaukee by receiving 1% in the Morning Consult national poll.
Burgum is the seventh candidate to meet all the requirements to participate in the first debate.
To help meet one of the Republican National Committee's requirements for debate participants to receive at least 40,000 individual contributions with at least 200 unique donors in 20 or more states, Burgum told USA Today he relied on supplying a $20 Visa or Mastercard gift card to anyone who donated at least a dollar to his campaign.

I can I get the deal by sending in 1,000 $1 donations?
If this doesn’t make a mockery of the process I don’t know what does. This “debate” is a farce. First of all, only those polling over 5% should be on stage. Second, NO moderators, just time keepers and topics, and the topics are the top 5 things people are focused on, climate change isn’t one of them.

Remind me to take this jerk off the list.
The governor of North Dakota should have as much credibility to run for president as the governor of Florida or Iowa. If you're the governor of a well-run small state that doesn't make news by being a hotbed of tragedy or drama, how else are you going to break through to the national stage if not by doing some sort of stunt?
Does it make me want to vote for him more? No, not really, but there's a lot of that in early stages of primaries, and from what I can tell, his state is better run than New Jersey under Chris Christie.
He is quite smart. He built and sold Great
Plins software to Microsoft for big $ and then became a top executive at Microsoft before going back to ND. I think he’s running for a cabinet position.
Smart and devious are two different things. MS-Gates stole more intellectual property than the Chinese Communist Party. If Burgum was involved in MS, he’s a slimeball and is not worthy of any office in any administration.
I don’t like this POS Burgum.
Just the kind of sleaze bag we need in the White House
Literally bought his place on the stage.
Francis Suarez is doing this too, or at least I got an email claiming to be from him with the same deal. The email said even if you don’t back him, a dollar would help to get him on the debate stage and it would be good for poitical discussion.
-I’m not doing it, but it sounds like he just wants his positions to be heard. (And for the record, I’m all about Trump)
whoever he is, I sure won’t vote for him!
we already have a master crook in the White House, we don’t nee an amateur who f*ucks around with $20 gift cards
So far I’ve made $38.
I will trade you a dollar bill for a Jackson and one of my many email addresses all day long.
Burgum and Suarez have taken a page out of Chicago’s Democrat Machine Politics Manual - pay your way into the front door.
Both smarmy knuckleheads are offering a $20 gift certificate to buy individual $1 donations from 40,000 gullible dummies so they can make it into the Republican debate stage.
It’s damned near Political Astro-Turf as coined by Lloyd Bentsen and perfected by David Axelrod. Create (buy, purchase, bribe) an artificial grass roots “movement”..... mmmkay.....
Remind me to take these two jerks off the list. No matter what they say, I’m not listening.
