They need to in order to keep their misdeeds and crimes from coming to light.

Titles like Senator and President are to power seekers as financial accounts are to money grubbers.
Not if you were corrupt. They stay where they are to keep things under control and keep the grift going. Taking their hands off of the operation might mean exposure and jail.
Because you are normal and they are not.
