I live in southern NH. My property unlike most properties was not a farm field or pasture in the 1800s. It was always a woodlot. My house was built in 1972. However, they only cleared enough for the actual house. The remaining 12 acres were woods when I bought it 11 years ago. I hired a logging company that cut for a week.
The result was a property with boulders everywhere on the surface. No ledge fortunately. There are rocks on my property that are over 7’ across. A couple were so big/heavy that a 30M# CAT excavator could not lift them. He could slide them or roll them. They were too heavy to lift without tipping the machine over forward.
That is what the glacier left 12M years ago when they retreated.
when i hike, i see huge boulders out in the woods that were obviously placed by a glacier- i did a lot of hiking, and found quite a lot of them too- a few over 2 stories high-
