GOP lawmakers slam Biden administration’s proposed clamp down on home water heaters
The New York Post ^ | 07/23/2023 | Ryan King

Water heaters could soon be subject to much more stringent efficiency requirements if a recent Department of Energy proposal that has been criticized by Republican lawmakers goes into effect.

In a draft rule unveiled Friday, the Biden administration is seeking to compel most electric water heaters to deploy heat pump technology and gas-fired ones to use condensing technology.

It comes months after the Biden administration ignited a firestorm over feared stove top regulations, after Albany lawmakers enacted a controversial first-in-the-nation gas stove ban in New York.

“Today’s actions—together with our industry partners and stakeholders—improve outdated efficiency standards for common household appliances, which is essential to slashing utility bills for American families and cutting harmful carbon emissions,” Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said in a statement.

The Biden administration anticipates the regulatory plan, set to go into effect by 2029, will save Americans $198 billion and slash CO2 emissions by 501 million metric tons over the next 30 years.

The department is planning to ratchet up the minimum efficiency standards for gas-fire water heaters, oil-fired storage water heaters, and gas-fired instantaneous water heaters.

“ will save Americans $198 billion…over the next 30 years

And now for some back of the envelope math:

Savings/years= savings per year

Savings per year/ estimated population of 340 million(static) = $19.41 dollars per person/year and all the cold showers that your can bear.

Meanwhile, China is building 2 coal fired power plants per week

Do you need any further evidence that Biden is is the Manchurian President?

How about stripping our government to pre-Wilson years. Can anyone compute the savings. This includes eliminating the 16th, 17th, and 19th amendments.

I wonder who makes the heat pumps and has lined the pockets of those in the Politburo?

Government employees should always go first, for 50 years, to show us how well it works.

I would much prefer that the GOP “leadership” put the cuffs on the Biden Crime Family. Haven’t we put up with enough of their cheap sh*t?

I certainly have.

We need someone to save us from the climate crazies. I’ve contacted my senators a few times regarding issues. Nobody ever responded. I have gotten actual help dealing with government issues by calling my rep. Never spoke to an actual politician but the office staffs have been helpful with particular issues.

Rush recommended the Rinnai Tankless Water Heater for years. We have one. No matter how long I use the shower / hot water, there is always 24/7 hot water for everyone else. When my bones and joints are really sore, I can get a long heat treatment without running out of hot water. There are even small units that fit under a sink (never tried one, but the idea looks cool).

No, this is not an ad. We are retired, with regular aches and pains everyone else has from time to time.

Hopefully, the Obama / Biden Regime will not attack this kind of product.

Miele now makes home laundry units. Their dryer uses a heat pump to generate warm air.

This idea, Water Heating HP’s (WHHP) already failed 30 years ago in California where they were required for new homes.

At that time their cost was about. $1500 each to purchase (not including installation). A regular type electric WH at that time cost about $220.

Over the next few years the WHHP technology failed so miserably home owners were allowed to replace with gas fired water heaters.

Disposing of these units was costly not just in $ but to landfills or other means of disposal.

WHHP technology works by extracting heat to heat the water from the surrounding air then discharging cool air. When a WHHP is located inside a house it therefore extracts heat for the heat you had already paid for to heat your house, then works against itself giving off the cool air.

Located in a garage or basement it also works against itself and the heating or cooling of the house. If your garage is cold it has to work extra hard to heat water.

Seeing this technology foisted on the public again is nothing short of idiotic.

Betting there are or were some great stock buys for the dishonest legislators or people connected with the regulators at DOE who support this technology.

I discovered Rinnai when I was residing in the Republic of China. They make an awesome product. I wouldn't consider anything else.

As for Rush, his insight along with his wit, are sorely missed. A great conservative voice has been taken away from us too soon.

The Rannai units (As wells as a few other brands ) are good units.

There is about a 15%-20% difference in the gas efficiency between the condensing units over non condensing.

They cost between the 2 types however is more than 15%, condensing units costing quite a bit more.

Rannai makes both types
