“When did singing our National Anthem become a thing?”..”

I was born back in the 1920’s and clearly recall in the years prior to the 1960’s at ball games, concerts, assemblies, etc., when the National Anthem was played the crowd proudly burst out singing and applauded afterwards. It was a big deal. It was a tradition that should be continued.

I was born in the 60’s.
I played little league ball, watched hundreds of games as a kid and an adult, went to dozens of NASCAR races, and currently coach little league ball.
I have never once heard a team or the spectators sing along with the National Anthem at any venue, game, event, concert, or party.
Not.
Once.
