UN says ideas 'floated' on how to get Ukraine, Russia grain to world

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) -There are a "number of ideas being floated" to help get Ukrainian and Russian grain and fertilizer to global markets after Moscow quit a deal allowing the safe Black Sea export of Ukraine grain, the United Nations said on Tuesday.

The Black Sea deal was brokered by the U.N. and Turkey in July last year to combat a global food crisis worsened by Russia's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine and Russia are among the world's top grain exporters.

Russia's withdrawal on Monday, which included revoking its guarantees for safe navigation, also ended a pact between the United Nations and Moscow in which U.N. officials agreed to help Russian food and fertilizer exports reach world markets.

However, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres "will continue to explore all possible avenues to ensure that Ukrainian grain, Russian grain, Russian fertilizer are out on the global market," U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

"There are a number of ideas being floated," he told reporters, without giving details.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said an alternative to the Black Sea grain deal had to be found and "there are very active discussions now."

The European Union said on Tuesday it is seeking to transport more Ukrainian grains via road and rail. While appreciative of EU efforts, Kuleba said Ukrainian exports through Europe would not be able to "compensate for the absence of deliveries from Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea."

All they have to do is honor the original agreement to allow Russian Ag products and banks free market access.

“UN says ideas ‘floated’ on how to get Ukraine, Russia grain to world”

One option is for the Neocons to LIVE UP to the agreement that they signed with Russia, starting by reconnecting their grain export bank to Swift.

Oh, never mind, the Neocons have NO CLUE as to how to live up to agreements.

The SWIFT issue is going to have serious consequences moving forward.
Every country witnessed what was done.

“..also ended a pact between the United Nations and Moscow in which U.N. officials agreed to help Russian food and fertilizer exports reach world markets...”

The UN/Turkey/Ukraine reneged on this part of the agreement and Russia backed out.

Ukraine should have built some standard gauge rail connecting to western Europe. That way grain could be sent overland to ports in other countries. Eventually they should consider switching their entire rail system to standard gauge. That would be a logistical nightmare for Russia and Belarus trying to invade Ukraine again.

Absolutely, and since the media won’t inform Americans what we did, perhaps seeing prices DOUBLE, or more, when they go to the supermarket will get the attention of people.

Ukraine is still floating their fantasies about a NATO coalition escorting Ukrainian commercial ships.

They think they can shame the world into nuclear conflagration.

It seems like most of Europe is hesitant in continuing escalation.
Poland and the US seem to not mind escalating to me.

Nations seem to be picking sides in a binary way.
What is currently happening, in conjunction with an economic crash, could spark a massive war.
Just my opinion.

“The SWIFT issue is going to have serious consequences moving forward. Every country witnessed what was done.”

Scores of countries now realize the US can cut them off from the world markets and banking. On a political whim.

Thus all the new and expanded interest in BRICS and a new international, gold backed currency. And of course, that comes with a new exchange network.

That means countries will be able to choose which network they want to participate in.

Of course, but Russia has ONE PORT to go, and those ships won’t have anywhere to dock in Ukraine, other than Crimea (since Ukraine claims Crimea is theirs).

“That means countries will be able to choose which network they want to participate in.”

Or both networks. In any case, the US can no longer get between two countries, like Russia and China, doing business with each other, as they’ll simply go with BRICS if that stunt is tried again.

I think, I hope, perhaps, that the Neocons are learning something valuable here, which is that: RUSSIA IS FAR BIGGER AND FAR STRONGER, than Serbia.

most of them have sent all their heavy weapons to Ukraine.

I believe it is deliberate, so when the time comes that the GAE escalates this thing into an Article 5, Western Europe is going to say:

“No can do. Sorry boss, we have no more weapons or ammunition.”

“But good luck, Uncle Sam !”

“RUSSIA IS FAR BIGGER AND FAR STRONGER, than Serbia.”

I have often made the argument that when one considers intrinsic wealth, Russia is the richest country in the world, by far.

With the US second.

The only real resolution is Russia controls the Black Sea.
