As far as I can tell, "energy efficient" is achieved by lowering the "power" of whatever appliance you are using. The last electric stove that I got was "energy efficient". It now takes more than 30 minutes to get a pot of water to boil in order to cook some pasta. With the new washing machine and dryer that are "energy efficient", it now takes me most of the day to wash/dry 2-3 loads of clothes.

Agreed. That’s why I rebuilt my now 20-year-old dryer rather than get a match for my front load washer (which also recently got rebuilt because it has warm water wash).
IMHO it’s the heating elements. Not only do they heat poorly, but they also don’t last, either.
