Northwestern University academics have stirred controversy by labeling student responses to a gender survey as evidence of 'fascism' and 'white supremacy'. The assertion came after students humorously claimed to identify as 'Apache attack helicopters,' in reference to a longstanding internet meme used to deride the concept of non-binary gender identities.
The researchers, also affiliated with Oregon State University, conducted the online questionnaire to study experiences of transgender undergraduates in engineering and computer science fields. Their findings, summarized in a paper titled 'Attack Helicopters and White Supremacy: Interesting Malicious Responses to an Online Questionnaire about Transgender Undergraduate Engineering and Computer Science Student Experiences', argue that the responses signify a concerning rise in far-right ideologies within the US.
The survey, sent to over 3,000 email addresses associated with various educational institutions, garnered 723 responses. Out of these, the researchers found 299 to be 'normal', 374 to be invalid or incomplete, and 50 to be 'malicious'. The 'malicious' category included respondents identifying as 'Apache helicopters', 'V-22 Ospreys', and 'F-16 fighter jets', alongside more elaborate entries seemingly designed to mock the survey.
The researchers noted that such 'malicious' responses were not merely pranks, but rather reflected a growing far-right trend in the US, characterized by anti-Black, antisemitic, and anti-feminist rhetoric. They cited the nature and repetition of these responses as indicators of a community sharing a political agenda that includes racist and trans-antagonistic ideologies.
Some respondents went a step further, associating transgender identities with disabilities and accusing the survey of undermining genuine scientific disciplines. One respondent argued, "There are two genders, male and female. If an engineer creates a bolt and a nut but then whimsically labels them, then they're not that great of an engineer."
The researchers, in framing these responses as 'fascist', concluded that such attitudes represented a significant element of a broader fascist movement in the US, frequently targeting trans individuals and student activists. As such, they called for modern academics to analyze and confront these discourses, viewing them as crucial evidence for research on marginalized individuals within the engineering field.
I still have a hard time seeing what the belief in two and only two sexes has to do with a governmental system where the government controls the corporations and population without owning them. The constant nudging from the FBI to news sites and social networks to erase non-leftist opinions is far more fascist.
It would be great to read the full report — an antidote to the reports of some liberal arts colleges where students claimed to be 60 % LGBTQZ7&$.

It drives leftists nuts when I inform them that Mussolini, the original fascist, was a member of the Italian Socialist Party and editor of their newspaper until he disagreed with the party over his aim to take the culturally Italian regions of the Austrian Empire in WW I. The party’s policy was neutrality in the “capitalist” war. So he left/was thrown out to form his own party. His economics didn’t change - government control of the economy. He just added militarism to it. Fascism is inherently a leftist ideology.

The paper is long, painful, and incessantly whining.
They regard any tendency to not serve the Left as “fascism”. Keep it up and you will see young men start to proudly proclaim themselves fascists, just to piss them off.
