Russia in the post-Soviet era could have used Japan post-WWII as an example to follow, towards real demoncracy, prosperity and success without empire and without belligerant imperial ways towards neigbors and former Soviet states. That was not Putin’s vision.
Neither was it Foggy Bottom's vision.
