I remember walking to the town of 29 Palms from the military base on a 100 degree day. It was about seven miles but I was so dehydrated when I got there that I spent the next few hours drinking water in the shade. I was a 19 year old Marine and in best shape of my life.

Yes, I took the bus back.

Can't imagine a 71 year old wanting to hike in weather like that.

Good thing the fool didn't go to the "Tree of Life" in Bahrain for the name. There's nothing around it other than a remote entrance to a Bahraini military base about a mile away. It's as hot or hotter than Death Valley. You and your car can easily get stuck in the sand. Maybe you'll luck out and a camel herder will come out of nowhere and walk by with his herd (and let you sit on one, I have pictures).
