President Vladimir Putin on Friday accused NATO member Poland of having territorial ambitions in the former Soviet Union, and said any aggression against Russia's neighbour and close ally Belarus would be considered an attack on Russia.
Moscow would react to any aggression against Belarus, which forms a loose "Union State" with Russia, "with all the means at our disposal", Putin told a meeting of his Security Council in televised remarks.

This suggests to me that Russia is contemplating exclamation.
Not saying they will, but I don’t think they are worried about Poland attacking Belarus out of the blue, for no reason. They must be war-gaming some move that they fear will be very provocative.
Didn’t large swathes of Belarussia and the Ukraine once belong to Poland?
escalation (not exclamation, lol)
Yes, it was part of Poland until 1939. It was a Polish minority there however.
For the most part the Poles of those regions were murdered, sent to Siberia, or forcibly resettled within the current Polish borders.
At some times, though not at others. Ownership in that part of the world is fluid. From the Black Sea to the Baltic, "Bloodlands" is not a bad description of the simmering mess of resentments and grudges one sees when one government or culture displaces/replaces another ad infinitum.
“Didn’t large swathes of Belarussia and the Ukraine once belong to Poland?”
Large parts of Poland once belonged to Poland - and then didn’t - and then did again. Control of land masses in that part of the world changed hands more often than one would find in a typical game of “Risk”.
Russia is old school. If they take over, they kick your ass out and resettle more Russians.
I remember Dr. Zhivago.
Yes. And Putin thinks Poland would like to have them back.
But also Wagner is training on the Belarus Poland border and the Polish PM believes that to be a threat.
Putin Tells Poland Any Aggression Against Belarus Is Attack on Russia
Code for Belarus and the Wagner Group will take a poke at Poland first and blame Ukraine
Poor Poland is caught in the middle of this NATO vs Russia proxy war. All the Polish people I’ve met are good people.
.
Putin has previously told us that Poland started WWII.
I’ve had the same experience. Lovely people. I sincerely hope Poland doesn’t get dragged any further into this mess.
Trump was right to restart V Corps and move its European headquarters forward to Poland.
I always find it ironic that the part of Poland taken by the USSR in 1939 under the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact was kept by the USSR when the war ended. Poland was given part of Germany in ‘compensation’. Germany’s invasion of Poland is cited as the beginning of WWII, USSR invasion of Poland...not so much.
Lithuania too. Vilnius was "Wilno" before the war.
Does Russia have the troops, tanks, missiles, artillery, and planes to open a 2nd front in a war?
And, any attack on Poland WILL trigger NATO to respond.
“President Vladimir Putin on Friday...said any aggression against...Belarus would be considered an attack on Russia.”
Fine. Then any attack by Belarus on Poland will be considered an attack by Russia on NATO.
That’s how this kind of thing works.
