Former President Donald Trump said on this week’s broadcast of “Sunday Morning Futures” that the only mistake he made during his time in office was some of the people he picked to serve in his cabinet.
Anchor Maria Bartiromo asked, “Is there is anything you could look back on in 16 that you think maybe you want to do differently?”
Trump said, “The mistake would be people. I mean, I wouldn’t have put a guy like Bill Barr, and he was weak and pathetic. I wouldn’t have put Jeff Sessions. And there are some people that I wouldn’t have put in. You know, most people were good, but I had some people, we had Esper. I didn’t like him. He was incompetent. I thought we had other people I didn’t like.”
Bartiromo asked, “Why did you put them in the job then?”
Trump said, “You put somebody in, and you think they are good.”
He added, “All of a sudden, I’m the president of the United States, and it’s like a different society. I was New York, and, you know, it was a different thing. So I didn’t know people. I became president. I’m riding down Pennsylvania Avenue with our first lady. I had 250 motorcycles. I had armies. I had everything. I said, do you believe it? We’re president. Take a look. This is wild, right? But I never was involved in that.”
Bartiromo said, “So you didn’t know what to expect.”
Trump said, “Well, I didn’t know the people. I know the people now better than anybody has ever known. The people I know, the good ones, the bad ones, the dumb ones, the smart ones.”

HE BETTER NOT PICK HIM AS VP!
Biden is who we're going to get if Trump is the GOP nominee.
Does he have any plan to win back the swing states he lost in 2020, other than denying he lost them in the first place? He can do this till he's out of breath. It's not going to get him to 270.
The problem I see, how many intelligent, honest, moral people are there who want to move their families to DC and get abused by the Deep State and MSM?
I can’t name one. Educate me please.
Tim Scott is inconsequential
None of these people did. These SAME people supported open border globalist Boosh for TWO terms. They had no clue...And yet here they are pointing fingers at Trump.
You tell ‘em champ.
I’d go. Ya gotta be the biggest junk yard dog on the block, and I don’t know anyone more capable of violence than I am. Threaten me and you’ll probably not live through the night. I live by the creed that so long as all men bleed all men remain equal, for if it bleeds you can kill it.
If he gets a second term he should go “Gorillia”.
when ever a Gorilla succeeds in taking over a
troop, he kills all the males, so that he has
no opposition.
Trump should eliminate every appointed official. From generals to bureaucrats.
Officials that were were appointed by and loyal to past presidents and install his own or no, on his very first day.
He should also rescind every executive order ever signed
by any president.
That will eliminate government employee unions.
Congress is going to start to do it’s job
and prioritize it’s time. They have delegated way too much of their powers to self interested bureaucrats.
On his second day furlough all employees from every agency not specifically authorized by the Constitution.
Order the GSA to terminate all utility contracts to Federal buildings used by organizations not authorized by the constitution.
Now let the dust settle and start over.
That would be how I’d start out.
Swamp is drained.
Country cannot be fixed with this present bureaucracy.
Yup. He’s a businessman not a politician. In business, your word is your bond, or you go bankrupt because word gets around you are untrustworthy.
Trump. Flynn. Ric G, Don jr, Giuliani, very few
He hates Trump, is probably a school teacher, a communist, and a coward. … He’s all bluster.
Jeff Sessions was my largest disappointment. There are other picks Trump made that we knew from the beginning were mistakes (i.e. Pence). But I and most other FReepers were excited with picking Sessions as A.G. So when he turned out to be a dud it was the biggest let down.
They look good.
First day without a news conference a head of it or campaign promises during the campaign, he needs to consolidate his core of trustworthy people begin to purge the agencies of despicables and appoint people to these agencies that will clean house also set up a commission with tax payer money (which we will not have a problem with) and go after the corrupt treasonous bastards that got us here
—> was in over his head. Talked a good game, but never got control of the executive branch and the government. He repeatedly picked bad people,
And yet accomplished more than any president in my lifetime.
More please.
I appreciate that he’s said this. I know he’d prefer to focus on the positive but this is very important. He mat consider also some of those he let go a bit early because he trusted the wrong people
Reagan had his California cabinet that he brought with him. Trump needs to develop his cabinet people now while out of office. If not it is rinse and repeat.
Who did he pick that was good? There's a huge list of all the bad picks.
Picking one bad manager is not the sign of a bad executive. Picking several, and then saying people are disloyal, is a big red flag in the private sector.
And before I hear the “They foisted these people on him”, I’ve never been in a senior level position where I’ve been able to pick 100% of my team. No one ever does. It’s not an excuse for having so many “bad and disloyal’ staff.
Not that simple! I understand your motives but almost everything you suggested requires Congress to go along.
1. Federal employee unions that JFK EO allowed to exist were codified into law by LBJ. It would take legislation to undo this.
2. How are you going to force a separate and co-equal branch of the US government to do its job? They like not having to do their job! Voters responsibility to take care of this!
3. All the agencies you likely think are “unconstitutional” exist due to legislation. It will require legislation make them not exist!
4. “Order GSA to terminate contracts” - Regarding all the agencies in those buildings See #3! Also, it sounds like you what the president to do something like impound (not spend) “Operations and maintenance” funds. The president lost the power of “impoundment in 1974. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Budget_and_Impoundment_Control_Act_of_1974
This act was further strengthened by the USSC ruling against “Line-Item Veto” in 1996.
Whole sad story is here!
