A Russian surveillance aircraft flew above a US base in Syria for an “extended period of time” on Friday morning in what officials deemed an intelligence collecting mission, a senior defense official said.

The aircraft, an Antonov An-30, flew over the At-Tanf garrison, the official said, flying back and forth several times over the base and the surrounding area.

“They continue to undertake activities that are very concerning to us,” the official said.

No US assets were able to intercept Russia’s manned surveillance aircraft in time because of where US aircraft were positioned at the time. The official said that the US has daily flight patterns determined by how many fighters are available, and tankers to refuel the fighters

We bombed Libya so Sid Blumenthal could sell weapons recovered for Hillary’s State Department. And we sure did. Nobody ever asked where the money went though?

Ukrainian made plane. Per Wikipedia the primary users are Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Romania. Newest ones are over 40 years old, some are 50 years old.

Cruise speed 270 MPH. Can outrun a Brewster Buffalo.

How dare they? They just need to float them slowly over U.S. Installations. Cart-Blanche.

Looks like an Aero Commander grew up. Swapped out those Garrett’s for some real engines. Nice plane!

Looks like Fokker F27skiM

I've ridden on F-27s. Lot better than the Martin 404s that would have been the other option.

Comparing the numbers - same cruise speed, higher max than the Fokker. Anatov is a few inches shorter but has 2 more inches of wingspan and a higher takeoff weight, but you are right, a pretty close match across the board.

No worries. We are simply following the pattern of the old Roman and British empires. We simply must be everywhere, all of the time.

Those two overextended empires collapsed. But we won’t. Because this time it will be different, I guess.

The USA doesn’t care. Russia should fly spy balloons over it next, to mock our ridiculous policies.

I knew it reminded me of something

I the the Army’s Golden Knights would jump from an F-27 at airshows (this was 30 years ago)

It's most likely collecting ISR data for the Iranians to use for an (anticipated) upcoming attack on the base.

Of course if there was the internet in 1940 most of you would be cheering on the Japanese for countering 'Corrupt Roosevelt and England's Western Imperialism in the Pacific'. Bunch of Lord HawHaws imbibing a tyrant's propaganda and influence campaign.

“That are very concerning to us,” said the commander who put on his skirt and went back to work.
