When are they bringing back Ebonics?
That way with their “increasing” math skills and language “gifts”, they can starve but be unable to tell anyone they are starving.

It also encourages teachers to make math culturally relevant

You take 600 mg of cocaine. Your body filters out 40 percent per hour. How high are you in three hours?

I can just hear our next President Kamala Harris on
meaning making.

“The story behind meaning making is simple. Something simple means it’s not difficult, really. Meaning making is a form of making something that has a meaning. It is the making of meaning.”

Lunacy. Math is math. The least woke subject. Nonsense, this is.

So some punky brats who never studied and slouch in their seats and doze off in class will not have to have the correct math test answers, just the meaning and feelings about them.

Old Zig Ziglar joke about his kid in school.
“I’m afraid I’m going to flunk algebra.”
“Hey, your dad does all that positive thinking lecture stuff. Be positive.”
“Okay. I’m positive I’m going to flunk algebra.”

They do not want to educate children. They are admitting they depend on ignorant people.

This doesn’t sound like math to me at all but I guess that’s the point.

The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the Revolution.

my young dtr brought home a math paper many yrs ago....she got a good grade on it even though there were obvious many mistakes...but the way she explained it, is that the teacher knew that she sort of kind of knew the material and actual answers were’nt important.

This is nothing more than woke BS...And for those who say CRT is not being taught in schools, this is exactly how they are actually embedding it in curriculum.

Having said that, there does need to be two tracks for math education...a collegiate level track, and a non-collegiate level track. Students on the non-collegiate track should be taught practical life skills math...that they will actually use in everyday life. If they eventually do want to go to college in a discipline that requires high level math skills, they can go to community college and take remedial math to catch up.

It also encourages teachers to make math culturally relevant and accessible for all students, especially students of color who have been traditionally marginalized in the subject…

Dump affirmative action. So they just alter the discipline.

This all boils down to whether public middle schools in CA will “allow” 8th graders to take algebra or not. If they don’t, I guarantee you the Asians and wealthy whites will pay the $300 to take it online privately. My own daughter did exactly that, so she could be ready for AP Calculus in high school. Now she’s a STEM major at UCSB. This will only hurt those CA is trying to help. UC wants to see 10+ AP classes for admission.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

“…especially students of color who have been traditionally marginalized in the subject…”

They have marginalized themselves. Not someone else.
