A selective call up of reserve specialists is fairly common when unexpected new demands are made on the active military force. After the end of the Cold War, for cost reasons, many military specialist units were deactivated and their members moved to the reserve forces. My guess is that the Ukraine war has led to a need for more intelligence, logistics, trainers, and language specialists, so reserves are being called up. If the military anticipated that war was imminent, then you would see a broad call up of combat specialists.

Excellent points, but does this suggest that demands exceeds current AD personnel, which might further suggest we are much more deeply involved In Ukraine than supplying armaments and some training on the equipment we are sending over there?
