This piece is so poorly written it was difficult to read. Dude needs an editor. He presents many valid points, though.
Same in the UK. They have ‘guilt’ over their empire - but what do they think it says to immigrants, especially those from Islamic countries, when we teach our own that we’ve ‘done wrong’ and that the empire and crusades were ‘wrong’?
1. It makes you look weak in their eyes.
2. If fuels the voices of radicals who influence legions.
“Maybe having Muslim colonies wasn’t such a great idea, after all.”

Like we have in Michigan, for example?
Gaul was called Gaul until a tribe of Germanic people came over the open Roman border on the Rhine during the 5th Century. They replaced the Gauls.
They were called Franks. Today the place is called France because of that. There is a lesson there for the French.
And for us.
Recall your history. Before the French colonized those Muslims they were being enslaved by those very Muslims. As were Americans. Biggest annual expense of us government under Pres. Washington, and the year before we had Presidents, was tribute paid to the Barbary pirates. There’s a reason piracy is mentioned in the Constitution and it’s not Blackbeard or long John silver. But instead of importing the Islamic pirates, they built a navy and clobbered them
French got sick and tired of wack a mole clobbering, so chose colonizing them and trying to suppress the problem. Remember we took 2 rounds of wack a mole and then no more thanks to the French colonization. After a century plus of resistance to that they chose importation over genocide, not recognizing the former might become the latter in reverse.
