Yep. My mother replaced her condo a/c two years ago for $3K. Friend replaced his in April--same brand and size as my mother's--$5500. I was gobsmacked.

You can hardly find 134 for your car ac and everything they come out with requires much higher pressures to get it to cool while expanding. Higher pressure makes it harder to contain and harder to pump and less efficient requiring more energy in a self-defeating loop. Even 410 is phasing out and it has not been around that long. 410 expands so little you can hardly distinguish between suction and discharge pressures.
I have nearly a full bottle of R-22 I bought nearly 10 years ago. It has gone up more than anything I own. Now it is right at or over $1,000 per 30 lbs. I think I gave something like $200.
We are simply going to hell in a hand basket under the crushing thumb of these lefties. By the time the sheeple wake up, if they ever do, it will be to late to salvage and grass roots rebuilding will be all that is left to do.
