Something people forget about Reagan was that he was on his own, it was a movement of one, Reagan had to shape the nation largely on his own.

There was no great conservative movement, no Rush Limbaugh talking to 20 or 30 million conservatives 3 hours a day, no Fox news, no talk radio or internet, the conservative Christians and pro-life movements were still young and new, there were no conservatives spread out in state legislatures and governorships or leading the party of moderates like Nixon and Gerald Ford, with Reagan bringing in the first GOP Senate since the mid-1950s but never the Congress(that took until the 1990s).

Absolutely. Reagan had much more to work against than Trump, e.g.

One could criticize Reagan for not being able to win the Representatives, but at least he had the Senate most of the time to work with. Then he lost the Senate, another negative.
