'Voters are going to get behind us in ways that are probably bigger than we've seen in the last 20 or 25 years as Republicans.' Florida’s Governor is looking to a former California Governor as an antecedent for his current presidential run.
During an interview on Wisconsin’s Mark Belling Show, Ron DeSantis suggested his candidacy could be the modern version of the 1980 election that saw Ronald Reagan defeat Democrat Jimmy Carter.
“What I would just tell folks out there listening is Biden is kind of like Jimmy Carter. When Reagan came on the scene, the country lost confidence in Carter. They were willing to go in a different direction. I think we’re in the same place with Biden,” DeSantis contended.
“And I think if we offer a candidate like me who has a record of achievement and a positive vision, I think these voters are going to get behind us in ways that are probably bigger than we’ve seen in the last 20 or 25 years as Republicans...

I knew Ronald Reagan & you, mr desantis, are no Ronald Reagan.
He’s probably a better man for our age and culture than Reagan, which is no compliment for our culture.
As to Washington and Jefferson—the Minute Men are Turning in Their Graves.

They weren’t as vile because everyone knew Reagan was a nice guy of endless joy who completely disarmed people. Only the sickest of people hated him truly.
NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE NICER.
I’ll grant that things are worse overall…that is because society is getting more immoral and coarse, so it would happen regardless. Civil war is more and more likely the way things are splitting in 50/50 fashion.
It’s just that Trump feeds their hatred, because he is likewise coarse. Reagan disarmed people with his sunny jolly personality and great optimism. He actually changed people and made them feel good about the country.
“but he is not hateable, like Trump”
How do you actually wake up in the morning with such a TDS addled brain?
It’s actually worse than that that for Florida Man.
Many simply have no emotional response to him at all.
Like Plain Vanilla-
10’s of thousands chant “We Love You” at Trump Rallys.
Like many of us, Florida Man’s best quality is his strong, fabulous, and quite wonderful spouse.
I knew Ronald Reagan & you, mr desantis, are no Ronald Reagan.
I don’t think so. I think Reagan would be still fantastic.
Then we’d have to have some sympatico leaders elsewhere to really impact the world.
“Maybe the next Ford? Found on Road Dead; Fix or Repair Daily?”
easy there Sparky-
F.O.R.D.
First On Race Day!
428CJ all the way
He has done a good job of recruiting some talent. He may be a better judge of subordinates than Trump-—but that is arguably Trump’s greatest weakness.
He is Italian-—does Fix It Again Tony make you happier?
More like the next Ronald McDonald.
CC
He sounds like has been hanging out and partying with Hunter Biden
Hatred is bad. Vanilla is ok. Either way, you might have a gamble as to winning. Hatred makes people vote AGAINST.
BTW, Watch your violation of the thread rules posted just the other day.
I don’t know how many times I have to say this. Trump adoration at rallies does not equal overall love, or majority vote. It looks impressive but what if those 10000 are the ONLY people in that state who vote for him? It drums up enthusiasm, sure, paints a happy picture, but the big crowds don’t equal huge votes. As many people HATE Trump as love him.
HAR!
A different definition of talent perhaps...
A trillion times better!
The 80’s were a great time to be am American
Reganism influenced the whole culture.
I respectfully disagree. Between Reagan and Trump we had the two Bushes (ignoring Clinton and Obama since this discussion is about how the media treats Republicans). Neither of the two Bushes bad mouthed Dims. In fact, they didn't even tell the light hearted jokes against Dims that Reagan did. Yet the media turned up the hate on Bush Sr more than they did Reagan. And they turned it up a lot more on Bush Jr. So it's no surprise they turned it up even more on Trump. It's an unmistakable pattern.
You're right to say that Trump feeds their hatred by arguing back more than the Bushes and Reagan. But I'm telling you that even without Trump the overall trend anyway is the media becoming more and more vile with each Republican president. Whoever the next one is can't escape that.
Delusions of grandeur. 😆
DeSantis reminds me of Dan Quayle who also was a very promising up and comer in his day. Quayle served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 to 1981 and in the U.S. Senate from 1981 to 1989 before becoming HW's vice-president. DeSantis is setting himself up for a similar type of disaster with this almost laughable parallel.
But Reagan did let them know with cute little jibes and quips (“it just isn’t so”). And he got very serious without being insulting and arrogant.
Bushes were too nice…but mostly because they would go along with Dems wishes. Reagan did not do that as a rule, though he did have to mostly counter a Dem Congress.
