As a former marine, there are some many questions I have. How does a 13yr old get on base without their parent? Civilians need a visitor’s pass to get on base. Who authorized that? Without passing judgment, until a full investigation is complete. But it sounds like a lot of unknowingly services members are going to get in trouble.

Unknowingly service members? The Marine base is all about knowing the rules and regulations I thought?

It is not unheard of to have a girl or woman duck down passing the entrance gate and find themselves in the male barracks (much like at college dorm rooms . ) I agree there are more questions than answers but more likely there were KNOWINGLY service members involved… even if just concealing her presence.

Also an inactive Marine and I personally took numerous civilians onto Camp Pendleton, and easily. Had the DOD sticker on my car and was not stopped at the gate. No mystery, as it happens daily. I am more curious as to how he kept her there for so long without her being discovered. The only way is if he was of such rank as to rate having a solo room, which used to be SSGT or above. If he is lucky, she duped him with a fake ID listing her age as 18 or higher. If he is not to smart, he either did not care about her age or took her word for it.

My wife and I visited friends back in 2006 in Costa Mesa, CA. The gentleman was a retired Marine. He was wounded in Vietnam, retired due to his injuries.
He took us on a drive-thru tour of Camp Pendleton on the to a relative’s house in Falbrook. He drove up to the gate, showed his military ID, was saluted by the Marine at the gate and we were waved thru, no problem. There were places we couldn’t go, obviously, and we weren’t on the base for very long.
