Ukraine war: Pressure builds on South Korea to send arms to Kyiv
BBC News ^ | July 8, 2023

Sgt Kim Jae-kyung stands, unflinching, outside the Colombian embassy in Seoul, dressed in full military gear. The day before, he was in front of the Dutch embassy. The day before that, it was the Greek.

This one-man demonstration by the former special forces soldier is his way of showing gratitude to all 22 countries who sent troops or medics to support South Korea after it was invaded by its neighbour North Korea in 1950. Now he wants his country to help Ukraine, following its invasion by Russia in February 2022.

"We are lucky enough to now be the 10th most prosperous country in the world, because of the foreign soldiers who shed their blood and sweat for our country," the 33-year-old says.

It is this rationale which led him to the battlefield in Ukraine, where he served on the front line for four months alongside the Ukrainian army, as an anti-drone gunner and combat medic for the 3rd Battalion of the International Legion.

Kim is one of just a handful of Koreans known to have defied his government's orders, by heading to Ukraine to fight. As he entered the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, shortly after it was reclaimed from the Russians, he witnessed first-hand what he describes as "horrendous, evil, war crimes".

It seems the whole world is going to be disarmed, except for Russia and China. Hmmm.

There was a report months ago that we took their artillery ammo because we were running out in Ukraine.

How many foreign fighters are supporting Ukraine in the war? Who is funding them?

Tens of thousands might turn out to support Trump but to the BBC it never happened. This one-man demonstration gets star billing.

South Korea has been getting a lot of very large equipment orders from the countries on the NATO Eastern Front and all these countries are strong supporters of Ukraine. They feel that South Korea must step up with their support to Ukraine too.

This is going on all the time ..it’s a blood bath. Yet many think it’s better an entire generation of Ukr men die than they settle with Russia and loose 1/6 of their territory and remain neutral. Europe has seen shifting national boundaries for thousands of years. You think even our borders will be the same in 200 years? Decision to fight should be up to the Ukrainians, and they have clearly shown that they want to expel the russians which is understandable due to russian actions and threats of genocide.

I agree with you the decision is theirs. If they choose to fight as a nation let them do it on their own dime. Because it seems to me the Governments of the West also want them to fight Russia.

I keep wondering why no one is mentioning the 100s of thousands of men getting killed. So the people of Ukr want this war? I know they are using press gangs to get cannon fodder—are there reliable polls that show the people of Ukraine want a major war over their border area and joining NATO?

How much of the Biden administration interest in this war is over the sovereignty of Ukraine and their borders? He certainly doesn’t seem to care about our own borders, seems if he really cared that much about Ukraine border integrity he would secure ours.

Or is Biden just paying back debts from his son and family earning millions of dollars in Ukraine off Burisma and other corruption efforts?

“ Analysis of Hunter Biden’s hard drive shows he, his firm took in about $11 million from 2013 to 2018, spent it fast
The hard drive and documents from Senate Republicans indicate few of Biden’s deals ever came to fruition and shed light on how fast he was spending his money.”—NBC even

PS
yes there are extremists in Russia, just because I’m anti-war doesn’t mean I want Russia to conquer all of Ukraine either—that’s the way this thing is likely to end if peace isn’t found

Is that you're stance with Taiwan, South Korea, NATO countries, etc?

” we took their artillery ammo “

You must mean the sale they are completing.
