Two major tech conferences scheduled to book thousands of hotel rooms in crime-infested San Francisco have been canceled.

The San Francisco Business Times reports that the “IBM-owned open-source software giant Red Hat Inc. has canceled plans to host its annual technology summit at San Francisco’s Moscone Center in 2024 and 2025.”

Two years wiped off the books. The report adds that both the 2024 and 2025 conferences would have generated around 40,000 hotel nights. Instead, the conferences are moving to Denver in 2024 and Orlando in 2025.

Well, San Francisco. You voted for this madness, so you’d better embrace it.

Denver is a poor choice. Orlando might be as well by 2025 depending on who is President.

In some sense this is the inevitable result of the inestimable wealth that the tech revolution brought to California creating an opportunity for waste and malinvestment [in ill conceived social agendae]. So as seems inevitable the boom and success contained the seeds of its own self-destruction.

Orlando will be fine regardless if they have it at the convention center. It’s huge and definitely can accommodate 40,000 people.

San Francisco now has a distinct national reputation, and it’s for the most part a very negative reputation.
The mystique and allure have dissipated just like the heavy morning fog. Not every part of the city, but in too many parts.

A classic “Death Spiral” or the new “Doom Loop,” AKA as positive feedback.

Democrats never understand negative feedback loops.

It really hurts to see this happen. SF was such a nice place when I moved there in ‘73.

Are you sure it wasn't the illegally voting non-citizens ( H1-B, Green Card, Consular Matricular, and otherwise ) who actually voted for it ?

The conferences are moving to Democrat-run Denver & Democrat-run Orlando, so the headline is misleading.

San Francisco is now in desperate condition. Apparently they prefer woke ideology to survival.

Or you can reform the whole thing by...electing more democrats! It’s worked SO well since 1964, SURELY it will work now, if we can only be brave enough to elect more democrats.

I went to Oracle World around 2008 and it was incredible. They shut down a half dozen blocks of San Francisco and thousands of people. They brought in dozens of buses to take us to an Elton John concert at Cow Palace. It’s since been moved to Las Vegas.

Knowing how hellhole cities operate, some stupid liberal will suggest the city rent the rooms not being used for the homeless, drug addicts, mentally ill, perverts and street criminals...
