The three Federal bank regulators lack the ability to impose social credit scores. There is nothing in their rules and regulations that permits the imposition of anything like ESG on the banks they regulate. That would take Congressional legislation. If the Democrats hold the White House and the Senate and retake the House, such legislation is distinctly possible in 2025.

Money center banks have imposed ESG on certain clients, notably gunmakers. However, borrowers so impeded, e.g., My Pillow, can turn to another of the 4,000 commercial banks in the United States. Canada and Britain have more highly concentrated financial services markets, making it easier to punish people like the Canadian truckers or Nigel Farage.
