Congress and President Biden must reverse the court’s supreme injustice to student borrowers
The Hill ^ | 07/06/2023 | REP. FREDERICA S. WILSON

Posted on 07/06/2023 11:28:49 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

The Supreme Court’s ruling on student loan forgiveness cannot be the last word. Congress and President Biden must overturn this supreme injustice to student borrowers and address the student debt crisis.

This damning ruling exposes a stark reality — a tale of two Americas, one with limitless opportunities for the privileged few, and another where hardworking Americans, burdened by overwhelming student debt, flounder in a post-pandemic economy.

The rejected plan highlights systemic inequities perpetuating an unjust society where financial barriers hinder success — a deafening call for action.

In 1963, when I attended Fisk University, college cost $1,248, equivalent to about $10,000 today. My working-class parents managed to pay for my college monthly alongside other bills. Since then, college costs have risen by 2.5 percent annually.

Paying your debts is both a moral obligation and a legal obligation.

There is no “injustice” is the expectation that people meet those obligations.

The author is portraying student loan debt as if it were something that was suprisingly heaped upon people without any warning. As if, one day innocent students were in school getting an education as and paying all their bills, then suddenly they become victims of tens of thousands in debt. No forwarning. No consent. Heh.

Stupid!

We can expect a constant stream of this effluent from now until the election, I suppose.

“a tale of two Americas, one with limitless opportunities for the privileged few, and another where hardworking Americans, burdened by overwhelming student debt, flounder in a post-pandemic economy.”

What about the third group who pays for all this nonsence.

The democrats are married to Biden (Bidan). Their options for getting rid of him are less than minimal.

Reminiscent of the ancient Roman capital punishment of shackling a murderer to his victim arm to arm, chest to chest, face to face until death.

The democrat party has to see the rest of its days shackled to what’s left of Biden.

You went looking for a loan. You found a bank with the product you wanted. You knew the amount of the loan, you knew the terms of the loan, you signed and agreed to the terms of the loan and it’s repayment schedule. You used the money. Now you’re all “I didn’t know how it would be” BS. Yes you did. You read the terms of the loan and agreed to them with your signature. Idiots.

Stupidity. Borrowers are responsible for their own debts. Big Mother Government is not going to protect you from your own bad choices. Even worse, make others pay for them.

You would be surprised how easy it is to incur student debt during the registration process.

It’s much harder to get a secured debt like a car loan or a mortgage than it is to get a student loan, AND car loans and mortgages are dischargeable in bankruptcy.

I disagree with the author's numbers. Tuition costs have risen probably 7% to 8% annually (even before Bidenflation). Paying off student loans will artificially inflate tuition and book prices just like any other government money that "helps" students have been doing for decades.

Instead of more government, colleges need less government. Both for prices and for the quality of education.

Borrowing money is a choice, and it’s a choice with consequences. It’s not forced on anyone.

You don’t overturn SCOTUS, you have Congress pass a bill and the President sign it into law.

It sounds like REP. FREDERICA S. WILSON is volunteering to pay back loans that her scofflaws don’t want to honor.

Bunch of ungrateful freeloaders.

Had to pay my mortgage for 30 years and never got an education in return except I had to pay my mortgage bill or lose a place to live.

Screw them
