The mutinous head of Russia's Wagner group is no longer in Belarus and it is not clear if his fighters will move there, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said on Thursday, raising questions about the deal that ended last month's revolt.
Lukashenko said on June 27 that Yevgeny Prigozhin had arrived in Belarus as part of the deal that defused the crisis, which had seen the Wagner fighters briefly capture the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and then march towards Moscow.
But Lukashenko, who brokered the deal, said on Thursday that Prigozhin was now in St Petersburg, Russia's second city, or may have moved on to Moscow.
"He is not on the territory of Belarus," Lukashenko told a press conference in Minsk.

Very interesting.
Prigozhin’s notorious troll farms are run out of St. Petersburg.
“If Prigozhin is able to return to Russia with impunity, it would raise new questions about Putin’s authority in the wake of the brief mutiny that marked the gravest challenge to his 23 years in power.”
It only raises new questions about what the planned end game of this potential ruse is. If this in any way challenged Putin or the Russian military, Prigo would have been dead the day this plan was put into action.
Exactly. Something else is afoot.
NATO’s favorite super villain.
Is his head there too?
I’d like to think the Wagner “mutiny” was a ruse to relocate Wagner into Belarus. One Wagner camp was only 200 miles north of Kiev. Wagner and the Russians could take Kiev, kill Zelensky, and quickly end this stupid war.
I’d really like to know if forces in Poland were shuffled around to meet this new circumstance. That might help to tell us what is really transpiring here.
He actually said Prigozhin was never in Belarus. Nor are any Wagner troops.
Lukashenko also said “Prigozhin was now in St Petersburg, Russia’s second city, or may have moved on to Moscow. “ which to me sounds like he doesn’t even know where Prigozhin is.
Oopsies! Sorry Putin, I lost track of the man who runs a private army and tried to march on Moscow. My bad!
Looks like the check didn’t clear. I hope he ahas some good food testers.
he doesn’t even know where Prigozhin is.
