Their mistake is making it a law so now everyone knows about it.

They should do it like they do in the US - just surveill everyone and don't mention it.

Exactly. Record everything - every keystroke even if deleted or not sent - and then use it to blackmail SCOTUS.

At least the French won’t have to go through the rigamarole of getting some FISA rubber stamp on their illicit spying.

If only there were technology to prevent that:

And for the more stylish gent:

I called one of my cells when it was “turned off” and called again when it was in a cage. The message I got was radically different, proving they can’t actually be turned off.

Ya mean like Bush made it possible to do that to Americans two decade ago? Pffft! Bush!

“And now everyone understands the Bill of Rights and why it is so very important.”

Oh, we understand it all right. The Patriot Act nullified it, and we understand that, too.

But they can be shielded.

Could you elaborate?

What happened when it was in a cage?

When off it went into voicemail as usual.

When in the cage I got the out of service area message.

Your definition of turned off must be radically different from mine.

Sledgehammer dropping on "smartphone" = TURNED OFF. Permanently.

So... record politicians committing crimes, play it on your computer with your phone aimed at the screen, and then the French police have the evidence.

Record yourself reading details from websites that highlight Macron and his globalist cronies. Any time the French government tries to take you to court for unrelated offenses, have them bring ALL your mobile phone audio into evidence.

Maybe the hoodlums that are burning cars in France should think about government buildings instead.

I assume they can already just get the French equivalent of a warrant to do it now.
