The concept of a multiracial Malaysia introduced by certain parties within the federal government is akin to the notion of a “Malaysian Malaysia” slogan that was introduced by the late Lee Kuan Yew when Singapore was still part of the country, former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Tuesday (Jul 4). Dr Mahathir also said that a multiracial Malaysia will erode Malay rights and make them “poor”.
He was doubling down on his statement the day before that promoting a multiracial Malaysia is unconstitutional, arguing that the federal constitution never mentioned that Malaysia was multiracial. His remarks were seen as a veiled swipe at the current unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“In a multiracial country, there is no difference in standard between the Malays who are indigenous, and immigrants as well as their descendants,” Dr Mahathir wrote.

Since the founding of the modern state of Malaysia it has been divided politially with most parties centered around one of the largest ethnic groups - Malays, or Chinese, or Indian.
Remember when they were a country with Singapore, then they kicked out Singapore? Which was apparently one of the best things that ever happened to Singapore.
For 144 years Singapore was a British Crown Colony. Then in 1963 Malaysia was formed with the merger of the Federation of Malaya with the former British colonies of North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapor. The merger did not last 24 months, and the separation followed racialized political bikering (the main party of the Malays was a party that identified itself most on ethnic grounds - by and for Malays - than stirctly political ones) and race riots between Malays and ethnic Chinese in Malaya and Singapore. The leader of Singapore declared the terms of the merger broken and established Singapore as independent. Whether or not the government of Malyasia was happpy with that, the dominant Malay political party was happy enough to be even more of a majorty without the Chinese in Singapore.
Don’t think the CCP in China did not notice.
1. I suspect that if they takeover Taiwain, Singapore could be next.
2. China sent what was then its lone aircraft carrier into the territorial waters of Malaysia just to emphasize to the government of Malaysia that China claims some iselts in that part of the China Sea, one less than 90 miles from Malaysia and more than 1,000 miles from any land of China.
