Ukraine and everyone in NATO agrees the "counteroffensive" cannot succeed without Air Superiority.
There are degrees of "air superiority." Total air supremacy for Ukraine would mean destroying all Russian aircraft in Ukraine as well as all Russian air defense systems in Ukraine. The US and Ukraine have a long way to go before that is achieved.
And NATO is dragging their feet on pilot training and aircraft transfer.
Supplying F-16s to Ukraine has run into major obstacles. The US air force does not want to train Ukrainian pilots in the US and the US is now figuring out that NATO countries do not have all the resources to the train the pilots, particularly simulators.
And then there's the basing of F-16s. Poland, Hungary, and now Rumania have rejected basing F-16s for use in Ukraine. And Ukraine airfields and runways are considered inadequate for F-16 operations, where they would also be vulnerable to Russian missile and drone attacks.

The idea of flying modern aircraft out of NATO countries into Ukraine...and against Russian forces...is simply ludicrous.
I can’t think of many stupider ideas in the history of man.
