I understand why Russia may want to open a new front, or feint, near Kiev, but its not like Wagner could remain hidden. US satellites will easily see them massing troops and equipment.

To be a benefit, it has to be a fake movement, somehow having the Ukrainians believe there is more force there, than there really is.

This war is the most open, ever in history. Both sides have access to multiple platforms of drones, aircraft and satellites.

Deception is hard, and necessary.
