Thomas Sowell has written extensively about the failure rate of minorities who were given a boost to get into Ivy League schools. Basically they get in, but they can’t keep up and wash out.
When I was in college some 40 years ago there was a remedial program in August for mostly minority students entering their freshman year. I would work summers in town over summer instead of returning home. Each August a new crop of these kids would come in and I would get to know some of them at parties. When the fall term would start you would see them on campus, but as the term progressed their numbers decreased. By the spring term, they were gone.
It was just a money making scheme for the university.
