Lowell P. Weicker Jr., who swaggered through three terms as Connecticut’s last Republican senator, challenging Richard Nixon over Watergate and the GOP’s rightward shift under Ronald Reagan, then willed the state’s income tax into existence in a second act as a third-party governor, died Wednesday. He was 92.

The Weicker Estate owes me reparations.
His grandfather co-founded Squibb, a pharmaceuticals giant, now part of Bristol Myers.
A grateful nation assumed that since Lowell Weicker was born in Paris he could never become president.
Not sure if that’s still true today.
Though being dead may also be a big disqualifier.
Sundquist in TN tried to push through a income tax. The people rebelled and he was not successful. That ended his career in Republican politics in TN.
I believe he is the only Republican Barbra Streisand ever endorsed so she could claim she was bipartisan. He also won a Profile in Courage award from the Kennedy family for raising taxes in his state.
Awful man. Prayers for his soul.
I remember him getting booed as our governor.
He was much worse than a standard RINO like Romney.
