Frankly, if I defended myself or my property with a gun, I probably wouldn't call the cops. Both me and my gun would leave the scene of the shooting and live happily ever after.
“Texas has a very stupid law “ Failure to Report Felony” where you must immediately report the commission of a felony to law enforcement. Failure to do so is Class A misdemeanor. PENAL § 38.171”
Be interesting if they applied it to ‘Pride’ parades, at least if they’re like the ones in California where they don’t even bother wearing clothes in front of kids.
“Frankly, if I defended myself or my property with a gun, I probably wouldn’t call the cops. Both me and my gun would leave the scene of the shooting and live happily ever after.”
Understandable, but keep in mind there are PLENTY of cameras, license plate cameras, cell phone, plus the undisclosed methods of using DNC (as they did with the Idaho killings) these days, and so getting caught that way would make you look quite suspicious to the police.
Also don’t forget the general rule with shootings - whoever calls the cops first will usually look like the good guy, at least in the eyes of the cops.
As I am not a lawyer, how am I expected to know what is or is not a felony?
People who brandish a gun to diffuse a situation, rarely report it lest they become the criminal.
