From laws increasing penalties against gang activity to new restrictions on gender-affirming care, there are several new laws that will go into effect on July 1. Here is a breakdown of what will change on Saturday:
House Bill 147: The Safe Schools Act modernizes school safety protocols by equipping teachers with skills to protect students. It also establishes a voluntary School Safety and Anti-gang Endorsement for teachers to help them spot and prevent gang activity and recruitment in classrooms.
House Bill 188: Mariam’s Law toughens requirements for sexual offenders upon their release from prison, and mandates electronic monitoring as a condition of probation for repeat sexual offenders. The law is named in honor of murder victim Mariam Abdulrab. A legal loophole allowed a repeat sex offender to kidnap and kill Abdulrab on her way home from work.
House Bill 383: The Safer Hospitals Act provides stronger protections to ensure the safety of emergency health care workers and health care workers in a hospital setting. It allows hospitals to establish a hospital campus police department similar to those of colleges. It also makes sure that hospital employees outside of the emergency room have the same protections from attacks that hospital emergency room employees, teachers, transit drivers, paramedics, and law enforcement have.
House Bill 529: This law lowers the minimum amount of insurance coverage ride-sharing and taxi companies must provide for anyone injured in an accident to $300,000.
[snip]
Senate Bill 44: The Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act requires judges to impose prison sentences of at least five years on those convicted of recruiting gang members. It also mandates tougher penalties for recruiting to a gang anyone under age 17 or with a disability, requiring at least a 10-year sentence.

The one I'm most pleased with is this one:
Senate Bill 140: Bars licensed medical professionals in Georgia from providing patients under the age of 18 with hormone therapy or surgery related to gender transition. Violations of the legislation could lead to the revocation of a health practitioner’s license.

The divide in our nation is getting wider. As some states are passing laws which will risk a parent having their child taken away should they not "affirm" their child's "gender" as decided by either the child, a teacher, or a health professional after only an hour or so consultaton, some states (such as Georgia) are making the protections for children even stronger. Georgia's laws includes penalties that put a physician's livelihood at risk.
And the one lowering insurance coverage? How is this good?
That one really impressed Me.
NOT !!! Was there a real problem with Disabled gang members ? Is this because of the lack of availability of Wheelchair Ramps at thug houses and crime scenes ? I'm really curious as to why this was put in the Bill ?
It makes sense to me. These gangs prey on mentally disabled kids and Down’s Syndrome kids. Many of these kids don’t have real friends and fall for the fake friendship that a gang can offer.

Gangs deliberately recruit young teens with mental disabilities, convince them they will be “liked” if they will do a few things for them, and suddenly a parent will find that their child has been accused of being involved with a robbery or even murder when they thought their child was at a new friend’s house. The gangs will blame everything on the mentally disabled teen and he will have no idea of how he become embroiled in such turmoil. For he was just helping out his “friends”.
The FBI does the same thing when recruiting those they want to portray as “white supremacists” or “far-right extremists”.
Those who are disabled are more easily bullied into joining a gang. Check and see what M-S 13 does to Latino kids in Long Island NY. The less strong the more easily extorted.

They gonna arm teachers finally?

What worries me about that one is that a “law” was passed but the state’s Professional Standards Commission and other state agencies, including the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, will develop the program’s details. So, the details of what the law entails haven’t even been written yet. These agencies have until the end of the year to do so, and who knows what they will define as “safety”. For all we know it could be “safe rooms” designed solely for Trans-GIBLETS and no one else.
It’s another case of our representatives sloughing off their duties to a bureaucratic agency!
trans-giblets lol- Yeah- when libs talk about school safety- they talk about everything but what is needed- hardening the school, and training and arming teachers OR have enough armed security guards onhand to counter any threats-
OK, that makes sense. I was fixed on physical disability. But now I must question where are the parents of these children when they are being recruited by the gang thugs ? If I was the parent of a child in that condition they damned sure wouldn’t be anywhere near to that situation.
There are only two types of gang members, those that are Disabled, or those which will be Disabled.......
“trans-giblets lol- Yeah- when libs talk about school safety- they talk about everything but what is needed- hardening the school, and training and arming teachers OR have enough armed security guards onhand to counter any threats-”
And they wait until the damage is being done to call the guys with guns while hoping the ones that show up have a large amount of that “toxic masculinity” they criticize so often.
Very true, but, unfortunately, you can’t watch your kid 24x7. We have an excellent Village Bakery up the road and they hire lots of mentally handicapped young adults and provide them jobs and dignity. But you never know who might befriend one of the workers and take advantage of them. It’s a balancing act between letting your sibling or child out to do as best they can versus over-protecting them.
My handicapped sister works for an excellent company that provides jobs for adults with mental disabilities. We trust the company to do a good job protecting their employees and they’ve done an outstanding job for decades.
I prefer DEAD ones.

LOL!
