Taiwan has reiterated its determination to attack Chinese warships and aircraft if they come within 12 nautical miles of the island, the Taiwan Defense Ministry's combat planning chief Maj. Gen. Lin Wen-huang said on Tuesday.

The Taiwanese Defense Ministry regularly reports on the activity of warships and aircraft of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) near the island. On Saturday, eight Chinese military aircraft crossed the so-called "median line" of the Taiwan Strait and were spotted 24 nautical miles from the island.

"If the PLA side continues to ignore our warnings along the way and force their way into our territorial air space and seas, we will actively strike back to safeguard national security," Lin was quoted as saying by the Taiwan Central News Agency.

Not sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Taiwan is quite capable of making their own version of QUICKSINK munitions.

Also, there have been recent stories to the effect that both of the CCP’s aircraft carriers have large cracks in their decks.

It’s good to know that the legendary “quality” of Chinese products also extends to their armaments.

I have always wondered if they sent us all of their crap products and kept the good stuff for themselves... Apparently not.

Hard to believe but it wasn’t until 2017 that China was able to make a reliable ball point pen. They had to import the ball mechanism from other countries. It appears their engineers have vast book knowledge but lack any technical know how.

They have 3. 2 are active, the one from soviets and their copy of the soviet. The 3rd is anew design still being built/fitted, and thats the one I saw that had cracks in the flight deck.

It’s good to know that the legendary “quality” of Chinese products also extends to their armaments.

China's reputation for "quality" is a result of their culture.

About 15 years ago, there was a massive scandal in China. Milk, and products made from milk, were causing serious injuries all over China. People who consumed milk — including small children — were exhibiting severe kidney stones and kidney damage.

Turns out the problem was being caused by the addition of a fire-retardant chemical called melamine to milk being used directly, and as a feedstock for other products like infant formula, as well as a popular national-brand candy called White Rabbit (in Chinese, bai tu tong).

And why was this chemical being added to the milk? Well, because milk manufacturers were being held to a certain standard for protein content. The addition of melamine caused the most widely-used test for protein content (the "Kjeldahl test") to give a much higher reading for protein content than would otherwise be the case. Milk going into the product stream could by this means be diluted with much cheaper water, and the resulting protein deficiency made up by the addition of melamine.

The result was the hospitalization of hundreds of thousands of people, including many, many infants.

The scandal was made worse by the coincident timing of its discovery with the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which caused many actors involved to work to hush it up, under pressure from the central government.

It is very, very difficult for Chinese people to admit they are wrong, or that they have made a mistake. This is the a result of the Chinese need to "save face," which is a cultural imperative.

Yes, the Taiwanese are quite capable technologists. Their factories produce something like 70% of all semiconductor chips used world-wide.

Yes, I know about that. The Taiwan air force shot down four of the attacking migs, out of a total of 16 that came at them. The others broke off immediately, and from that day forward, the PLAAF jets stayed on their side of the border. Those kills were all the result of Sidewiders, first time they were used in combat.

Described in this excellent documentary about Sidewinder:

To the Sea, a Sidewinder 50 years of snakes on the wing. AIM-9 Sidewinder missile history.

Go to 27:53 in the video to see material about that incident.

Taiwan wouldn’t be talking like this if they knew we’ve been blowing smoke up their asses all this time.

Was that from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?

Another Verne movie Master of the World (Charles Bronson had a supporting role but Vincent Price was the lead) in which an airship could defeat armies in all countries.
