That sound you may have detected rising from the ether of social media this weekend was the gnashing of teeth by COVID conspiracy-mongers, outraged by a U.S. government report debunking their most cherished claims.
The long-awaited report released Friday by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, or ODNI, put the lie to the theory that the Sars-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID, leaked from a virology lab in Wuhan, China, where the disease was first detected in humans.
The lab-leak conspiracists were certain that the report would validate their contentions, for which there has never been any valid scientific evidence. Instead it did just the opposite.

I expected them to say that the COVID lab leak story had all the earmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign.

Well, the Chinese said the U.S. did that.

LOL, you have to have some credibility in order to be able to “debunk” something, so the US government is not capable of it.
Let me give an example of how this is an ideological cover up by an internal partisan who created this report. This is a direct quotation from the report:
“While several WIV researchers fell mildly ill in Fall 2019, they experienced a range of symptoms consistent with colds or allergies with accompanying
symptoms typically not associated with COVID-19, and some of them were confirmed to have been sick with other illnesses unrelated to COVID-19. While some of these researchers had historically conducted research into animal respiratory viruses, we are unable to confirm if any of them handled live viruses in the work they performed prior to falling ill.”
So we don’t know according to this explanation whether the sick WIV workers really had COVID in the fall of 2019. This is a plain cover up because the report glosses the matter by pretending that the diseases came and went and we cannot now know whether they had COVID 19. That is false, because the antibodies associated with the illness remain in the immediate aftermath of the illness. Chinese authorities could have always made the antibody data available from these workers.
The report makes it clear that the Chinese government is not doing this— three years later. That is plain proof of cover up both by the Chinese Communist party and the sympathetic American Government report we read here.
Truly pathetic.
