Since the fall of the Soviet Union, two doomsday scenarios have come to capture the imagination of the West. One is that, thanks to climate change, our planet will explode into a retributive blaze reminiscent of the Book of Revelation. The other is that we are on the cusp of inventing an artificial intelligence that will opt to destroy humanity after performing some impenetrable cost-benefit calculation.
Our attitude to the threat posed by Vladimir Putin’s Russia, by contrast, borders on the flippant. It is striking that the Wagner Group’s abortive coup was greeted with neither trepidation nor a sober assessment of the potential fallout. Much of the West looked on with a kind of awe, as pundits confidently pronounced the end of Putin’s reign. This was swiftly followed by a scratching of heads when Yevgeny Prigozhin called his rebellion off.
This speaks to a strange blind spot in the West. We have become hopelessly complacent about the existential threat posed by an enigmatic and dangerous country that is in many ways beyond our ability to comprehend. Hollywood is more interested in psychopathic robots than exploring the Russian “soul”. Despite the war in Ukraine, there is strikingly little interest in the Russian elite’s long-standing self-conception as the bringer of the apocalypse, traceable back to the medieval era and a recurring theme in the country’s philosophy and literature.

She is the Assistant Editor at the Telegraph.
The article represents her interpretation of the current world situation.
And I am sure she would support a NATO intervention to secure Russia's nukes.
My first reaction to this article was, “Who TF is Sherelle?”
‘Nuf said. I am of Russian/Jewish heritage, and have studied Russia for decades as one interested in both his family history and one who has an interest in foreign & defense policy. With all of that background, doubtless more than Sherelle’s, all that I know for sure is that we are NOT being told the truth, certainly not the whole truth, and also just as certainly, there are many untrue things that we’re being told. I sincerely doubt that even our various intelligence agencies know all of what’s going on...mainly because of the Russian penchant for secrecy, and especially given the fact that Putin is ex-KGB. We will NEVER know all o what’s going on today - neither today, nor next week, month or year, and not even 500 years from now.
I also know that our government, full of th incompetent, corrupt and arrogant social engineers that we all know and loathe, will find at least 4 different ways to utterly screw up this situation.
Oddly, she’s an eloquent advocate for things she knows absolutely nothing about.
And she will resonate with those possessing equal knowledge...and aligned passions.

Yes, a strange blind spot. Despite almost everything coming with a “Made in Russia” label, much of the nation somehow ignores it. Well, it’s oil and gas at least.
This is going to increase hostility and cause trouble. Bay of Pigs 2!
“Stupid is as stupid does”..Forest. Forest Gump.
The USSR was exponentially stronger than today’s Russia and it went down with a whimper not a bang.
Really, I think this reputation of Russian might is overblown quite a bit.
Then -maybe- we should quit screwing with them. Just try it for a few years and see how it goes.
I wish this hell war would end, one way or another.
Absolutely the most horrific video I can remember seeing. Ukr infantry trapped in a mine field and losing leg after leg, all caught on a drone camera.
most certainly not for the squeamish.

“complacent about the existential threat posed by an enigmatic and dangerous country”
“enigmatic”: Try to be friendly for a few decades. When treated with aggression and contempt, carefully explain what they take issue with. When the behavior continues, move to protect their interests. This is utterly mystifying to DC and London.
Horrifying. How many of those were draftees? All for ambitious nazis, globalists, childless DC people like Nuland.
All for them to play their games.
All of this could have been avoided by the Galicians not abusing and ethnically cleansing in the east. And by America not carefully nurturing and putting tinder on the remaining coal of Banderist nazism.
Good job to these turds. None of them were there in that minefield with those men they didn’t care a whit about.
