ANY poll 16 months before an election is worthless.

A general poll for POTUS is ALWAYS worthless. State-by-state polls have meaning because that is how we elect our POTUS.

The last 10 national polls had the following (from newest to oldest):

Biden +4
Biden +1
Biden +4
Trump +6
Trump +6
Tie
Biden +4
Biden +3
Biden +2
Trump +7

So 6 out of the 10 most recent polls show a Biden lead, one tie and three show a Trump lead (and two of those are from the same pollster).

“Rasmussen and others have Trump 6-8 points ahead of Biden. Sorry TDS Redstate”

I like Trump, and voted for him in 2016 and 2020. But I like winning general elections even more. Whether slightly ahead or slightly behind, one thing is consistent about these national polls – Trump is stuck in the mid-40s with no prospect of rising above that. Further, there is little possibility that the critical swing states (PA, MI, WI, AZ,NV, GA) would return to him in 2024.

An article in Politico last week noted Democrat activists were trembling in fear as DeSantis was holding leads over Biden in most of those states, including PA.

Trump is a known quantity to the entire electorate. Sadly, that means he is the only GOP candidate that Biden can defeat. The Democrat leadership knows this and delights in the prospect of Trump limping to the GOP nomination with an untold number of indictments hanging around his neck.
Trump has a passionate and devoted following, as well as a large contingency that deeply despises him.. Nothing motivates a strong Democrat turnout like Trump on the ballot.

Trump would be well served at this point by focusing all of his fire on Biden, as well as putting forth some serious policy proposals . But starting six months ago he has chosen to spend more money on vilifying Ron DeSantis than he spent during the entire 2022 mid- term elections boosting GOP candidates.

When the GOP primary season begins in earnest next Spring, Trump will be in court explaining why he paid hush money to a porn actress and a Playboy playmate. This doesn’t seem to bother his core supporters in the least.

Recognizing I’m about to be severely castigated on this forum for this common sense observation, I’ll go ahead and say it – DeSantis is the best hope for recapturing the White House in 2024 and begin an eight year journey to chart a new and better course for the country.
