SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A controversial new ordinance came into force on Saturday in San Diego requiring landlords to compensate renters when their lease is terminated through no fault of their own.
“This is a good step in the right direction,” said Rafael Bautista, director of the San Diego Tenants Union.
The ordinance, which was brought forward by San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and Council President Sean Elo-Rivera gives tenants new protections that start on the first day of their lease.

When I did taxes, I had a black woman co-worker with a masters in Accounting. Don’t know if she was a good accountant, but she was great at taxes, a wonderful person, a Christian married to a Christian black man raising their 3 kids - a joy to be around and work with. Cared about others, polite, soft-spoken, always willing to help - a “unicorn” regardless of skin color!
But very few people with advanced degrees have impressed me outside of engineering. And the engineers I worked with were about 90% white men. Some Asians. Can’t recall any blacks.
I have worked with some very friendly and pleasant black folks.
But—when they made errors, small or large, I was always afraid to call them out on it—not worth my paycheck.
That is the world they lived in...
What a concept, expect a rental shortage soon.
Investers, if you are invested in rental income property in San Diego, sell it and get out, and if you are not in that situation then don’t buy rental units in San Diego.

Exactly. Then, when supply dries up and prices go way up, guess what we’ll hear? “We need ‘rent stabilization.’”
Not acting white permeates black culture..........

Everything happening now in the rental and housing markets is in accordance with that plan. Any and all means being used are intended to alleviate individual landlords of the “burden” of owning rental properties.
The brilliant part of the plan is revising the definition of private property from something beneficial to something onerous.
1. Create a problem or crisis.
2. Direct or manipulate the reaction to the problem/crisis.
3. Offer solution. Reap the benefits.
And on it goes...
It is BS, for many reasons.
My primary response to any ‘giving of Rights’ notice is that we all have the same Rights - they are innate to Humans. We are born with them.
They are restricted by others, some, very few, justly. Most, unjustly for political reasons. Power. Wealth.
Also, this law tampers w/ the market. Unjustly. And Market Forces will strike back.
