Former President Trump expanded his lead over the GOP presidential field following his federal indictment earlier this month, with over half of Republican primary voters now saying in a survey that the former president would be their first choice for the 2024 nomination.

The latest NBC News poll found that 51 percent of GOP primary voters said Trump would be their first pick for the 2024 Republican nomination, a 5-point jump from April. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is in second place, currently holding 22 percent of the votes, a 9-point drop from where he stood in April.

Only 7 percent of respondents say they would choose former Vice President Mike Pence, and 5 percent say they would vote for former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

No other Republican candidate received more than 4 percent support in the poll.

Trump re-posted a tweet of someone calling him the King of Israel. So, there is that.

Arizona. The state that kept putting John McCain in office.

Yup. And no good deed goes unpunished.

Leaders have to do the right thing, regardless of the consequences.

But in the ingratitude is jarring.

You give me the swing State, then, if Arizona polls don’t suit you.

If Deep State steals a state’s elections, its not a swing state, is it ..

Every sane American (including a big swath of Democrats) watches the Deep State ridiculously, endlessly, persecuting this one man with a zeal that used to be confined to movies about ruthless dictators.

Every time they move against Trump, it becomes clearer in more minds that these are paranoid control freaks, and NO ONE wants to live in a country run by paranoid control freaks.

Here we go. Just another FReeper stomping his feet and holding his breath because "THEY CHEATED!" Truly pathetic.

Just wild conspiracy theory with no legal evidence to back it up even though hundreds of lawyers and activists have tried to make the case. The "THEY CHEATED!" crowd will be the death of this fine website.

Polls at this point are always of questionable value, and especially if you are focusing on individual polls. At this point, you are better off looking at averages of a number of polls and even then only by looking at the trend. Speaking of trends:

On June 8th, before the latest indictment came out, Trump led Desantis by an average of 30.3 points. By June 10th, the average lead was up to 33 points. Since then, the average has dropped back down to 30.6 point, about where it was before the indictment came out.

On June 8th, the day before the indictment came out, Trump was averaging 54 points. Two days later, he was averaging 55.6 points, and by June 13th he was at his lowest point during the last 30 days at 52 points. As of June 23rd, he was averaging 52.1 points, almost 2 points lower than he was before the indictment.

On June 8th, Desantis was at averaging 23.7 points. Two days later, he was averaging 22.5 points, and by June 15th he was averaging 20.2 points. Since then, his average has climbed back up to 21.5 points.

So if we look at the trends, after the latest indictment Trump experienced a short-term jump in his average points and in his lead over Desantis. Desantis lost ground due to people rallying to Trump, then both began losing ground over the next couple of weeks. Desantis had a slight rebound in the last week of available data, while Trump remained relatively flat.

By the way, far from Trump continuing to increase his lead over Desantis, the numbers show a narrowing of the lead. In mid-May before Desantis entered the race, Trump was averaging almost 37 points ahead of Desantis. Now his lead is down to just over 30 points. Now, I am not going to say 30 points is not a significant lead, but I think watching the trends for the next few months will be more instructive than trying to rely on specific polls that support your position.

You wanted an answer. I gave it. I didn't say which way the leaned.

But Arizonians kept giving us McCain cycle after cycle.

I believe the true swing States in 2024 will be WI, MI, PA, NC, GA, and AZ. And Trump isn’t doing too well in any of those States. National polls of registered Republicans mean NOTHING in terms of beating Biden. Meanwhile, the Trump-cult only cares about winning the primary. Absolutely foolish.
