Ukraine strikes bridge to Crimea, say Russian-appointed officials

Ukrainian missiles struck the Chonhar road bridge connecting Crimea with Russian-held parts of the southern Kherson region overnight, forcing traffic to be diverted to a different route, Russian-appointed officials said on Thursday.

The so-called "gate to Crimea", known by Russians with a different spelling as the Chongar Bridge, is one of a handful of links between Crimea - which Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014 - and mainland Ukraine.

It is on a route used by the Russian military to move between Crimea and other parts of Ukraine under its control.

Kyiv says it wants to retake Crimea and drive all Russian forces from its territory. Yuriy Sobolevsky, a Ukrainian official on the governing body for the Kherson region, said the strike was "a blow to the military logistics of the occupiers".

"The psychological impact on the occupiers and the occupying power is even more important. There is no place on the territory of Kherson region where they can feel safe," he said via the Telegram messaging application.

Russian investigators said four missiles had been fired by Ukrainian forces at the bridge, the RIA news agency reported. It quoted a spokesman for military investigators as saying that markings found on the remains of one of the missiles suggested it had been made in France.

Looks like the Kherson strategy.
The trouble here is in two parts, in that it’s not possible to shut down all logistics, Kherson style.

- that one route, that through Perekop, isn’t so vulnerable to taking down bridges/causeways.

- that these are in range only of long range missiles, of which there is a limited number. At Kherson it was possible to keep the bridges closed because any repair attempts or pontoon bridge bypasses could be suppressed with a regular dose of HIMARS.

But this does add to the strain on logistics.

Putin’s land bridge to Crimea was effectively cut as a result of this strike.

The US and NATO are waging a proxy war in Ukraine to gain control of Ukraine’s natural resources .

We trained and equipped the Ukrainian army since the US backed coup removed the Russian aligned government in 2014. and we are supplying them with the arms to fight and money to keep the Ukrainian government from collapsing.

The US and NATO are effectively at war with Russia at this point.

As long as the Western weapons were used only within Ukraine’s borders the Russians were playing along with the charade.

Now, we are giving Ukraine offensive weapons to widen the war and attack Russia and Russian allies outside of Ukrainian borders.

The next logical step in the escalation cycle is for Russia is to become more active in the Western regions of Ukraine and to start preparing for a full scale conflict with NATO.

Next step after that is to begin interdicting arms shipments destined for Ukraine before they enter the country.

This is all a lead up heading to a full scale confrontation between the US and NATO.

Not yet.

When there are hundreds of aircraft sorties against Russian invaders you’ll know that the U.S. and NATO are effectively at war with Russia.

For now the US and NATO are content to watch Russia’s legacy gear destroyed by legacy Cold War weapons of both NATO and the Warsaw Pact.

So Latvia Lithuania Estonia Finland and soon Sweden are all about natural resources?
Do you look at what you type, could easily and more likely attribute the gaining of natural resources and the control of them to Russia hummmm

Guess we shouldn’t have supplied England and Soviet Union with supplies prior to 1942
The logic is amazing Putin is liberating and west is at war, lol got it
Amazing the pretzels these people bend them into to rationalize their positions

At this point, it really does not matter why or to the motivations -it’s about the cycle of escalation .

For some reason a lot of hinky stuff has been going on in Ukraine since Obama and Nuland engineered a Color Revolution coup there in 2014, so yeah, they are targeting gaining control of Ukraine's resources.

That's what coups are for

Russia should go home and let Ukraine control its own natural resources.

It’s funny how “coups” by US are somehow bad(usually they are…) but is there even the tiniest of chances that Russia was influencing the past election(s), then there is Moldavia, US elections, Turkey, brexit….
I am sure resources were definitely part of it, but to keep Russia from cornering the markets????
lots of stuff can be said, but there is no good side to Russia or Putin
My 2 cents

FTA: ...markings found on the remains of one of the missiles suggested it had been made in France.

The missile was certainly a SCALP-EG, which is the French version of the Storm Shadow.

The warhead is a 990 pound, multistage penetration warhead.

A bridge roadbed is much easier to hit than a bridge abutment.

They should.

They want to, in fact.

But Blinken and Biden just said - the war goes on indefinitely and they will block any attempts at a negotiated settlement. Just like they have since the start of the conflict

US engineered coups have a history of having very negative consequences.

Ukraine is a prime example.

We basically replaced a corrupt Russian sympathetic regime with no threat to NATO, with an even more corrupt Western controlled government that was actively threatening Russia and was persecuting and ethnic cleansing Russians in Eastern Ukraine.

Now we are moving to open war with Russia over Ukraine.

There are no nice, benevolent guys in that corrupt region.

Unfortunately, the Russians shouldn’t have too much difficulty repairing that hole by just placing some temporary bridging equipment over it.
