West Virginia senator Joe Manchin's Democratic colleagues are scrambling to stop him from mounting a presidential bid against party-mate Joe Biden, calling the prospect of a challenge from the high-profile senator a "terrible idea" that would only help Republicans.
Manchin has flirted with a third-party presidential bid, an endeavor that self-described centrist group No Labels—which has pledged to spend $70 million on a third-party candidate in 2024 but has yet to reveal its most recent financial figures—could fund. For Manchin's Senate Democratic colleagues, the idea is a full-blown disaster. Sen. John Hickenlooper (D., Colo.), for example, told Politico he "advised [Manchin] against" a third-party presidential run, which he called a "terrible idea" that would "help Donald Trump." Manchin remained coy in response—he merely "looked at me and nodded," Hickenlooper told Politico.
Manchin's political indecisiveness comes as the senator approaches a difficult reelection bid in 2024, which could see him face off against West Virginia's popular governor, Republican Jim Justice. Manchin has so far declined to commit to a reelection bid and says he's in "no hurry" to determine his political future, which, in addition to a presidential bid, could see the Democrat run to replace Justice as governor, a position he held from 2005 to 2010.
Senate Democrats are, for now, taking Manchin's White House ambitions seriously. Sen. Gary Peters (D., Mich.) told Politico Manchin is "still thinking" about running for president, while Sen. Jon Tester (D., Mont.) said "you never know about Joe." Should Manchin run for president, those lawmakers and others say, Republicans would likely win West Virginia's Senate race in 2024 and could even take the White House. Still, that argument has not moved Manchin, who questioned the notion that a third-party presidential run would help the GOP.

Go for it, Manchin! I’ve got plenty of popcorn, both regular and Crackerjack flavored.
Manchin has the same voting record as the phony Jew, Schumer.
Manchin running third party would be another piece falling into place... :-)
I’ve dreamed of an internecine rivalry among the Dems for years.
I don’t buy it. The Dimmycrats have enough problems with RFK Jr. running and return to Democrat ideals. My Predictions are as follows: 1) Joe Biden has health problems—a stroke in July or August. 2) He resigns giving it to Harris. 3) She gets to be speech reader in chief and appoints Hillary Clinton as her VP. 4) New Scandal hits Harris and she resigns. November 5) Bill Clinton dies of a heart attack. Hillary gives great speech at his funeral. 6) Republicrats shut out Trump and put in DeSantis as President candidate. 7) Trump goes 3rd Party. 8) Dimmycraps select Governor Newsom for President (shutting out Hillary) and a woman of color as his VP maybe Oprah or the ever popular Michelle Obama. 8) DeSantis falls apart on Debate Stage. 9) Trump wins in a major upset.
We should start a letter campaign to make him think he has a shot 3d party. He won’t get anything but Dem voters.
“It’s just another Manchin power play. He will get some big deal for W V on our dime , skim a couple million in kickbacks and crawl back under his rock”
_______________
Spot-on. He’s the new Bernie.
If Manchin and JFK Jr. team up and go 3rd rail, Libertarians, RHINOs and semi-intelligent Democrats would vote for them in the general election. It could be a 3-way toss-up, throwing key states into eternal recounts until China takes over.
He won’t run. Just like with the so-called inflation reduction act, Manchin positions to wheedle some piddling concession, then does the obvious. In this case, he’s probably using the threat of running against the meat puppet in case his buddies slow-walk the gas project permits for WV.
Democrats have to somehow replace the Biden/Harris pair. Biden is not being helpful.
Manchin is a self-serving whore with no moral anchor. He flips and flops in whatever direction he believes will be to his benefit.
Won’t happen. Just give $1 to Cornel West for a debate appearance. Then give $10 for disturber-of-the-excrement purposes.
Well that sure is a fanciful scenario... sure to give many a serious case of apoplexy!!!
Never another democrat president is the first step in preserving liberty and the country.
