Twitter to focus on video, commerce in major business revamp: report

Twitter plans to focus on video, creator and commerce partnerships to revitalize the social media company’s business beyond digital advertising, according to an investor presentation by owner Elon Musk and new Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino that was reviewed by Reuters.

Yaccarino, who started as CEO on June 5, told Twitter investors on Thursday that the company is in early conversations with political and entertainment figures, payments services and news and media publishers, said a source familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a private investor call.

The presentation was Yaccarino’s first time addressing the company’s investors, the source said.

After Musk acquired Twitter in October, the social media firm faced months of chaos, including layoffs of thousands of employees, criticism over lax content moderation, and an exodus of many advertisers who did not want their ads appearing next to inappropriate content.

Musk’s hiring of Yaccarino, a longtime advertising executive who modernized ad sales at Comcast-owned entertainment and news conglomerate NBCUniversal, was a signal that digital ads remained a priority for Twitter.

The NY Post “staff” writers are nuts: “...the social media firm faced months of chaos, including layoffs of thousands of employees, criticism over lax content moderation, and an exodus of many advertisers who did not want their ads appearing next to inappropriate content.”

I’ve been in companies where our fortunes changed abruptly and massive changes were needed right the ship. One huge company went out of business and another got sold off. This is business.

“...criticism over lax content moderation” — what about the previous quasi-ownership and control by the US intel community and federal government? No concern about that?

“...advertisers who did not want their ads appearing next to inappropriate content” — that’s too rich. Twitter was an open sewer. Musk has done wonders to clean it up.

Tucker’s success proves this is a smart move.

I signed up for Twitter recently, with the Musk takeover. I’m not crazy about it. I don’t follow anybody, just go with the flow. Gotta say...there are so many ads, it’s just frustrating. Anymore added to the already overabundance and I’ll pull the plug.

Musk retained his title as the World’s Richest Man. I am sure he is not losing too much sleep over this.

I’ve been saying for a long time Musk is building a platform to push his own video/entertainment content out. And why not, he has his own worldwide distribution platform.

TwitterTV is going to be a very big deal.
